We couldn't have a Guitar battle because he plays a bastardized instrument whereas I play the mother of all instruments and it wouldn't be a fair fight. He might dazzle you with some slick lead guitar riff, but he would lack any kind of soul, groove and heart felt love of the beat. Guitar playing is like icing on a cake. It's all the sugary goodness on the outside that everyone sees but the real joy is when you bite into a slice of the moist and delicious center of the cake and which fills you up and makes you think that you just entered heaven. That is what the bass is.

Posted: Thu Dec 24, 2009 4:57 amCall me a dentist and take my Novocaine... I think I hit a nerve. You're right though, the music is nothing if there is nothing to hold the bottom together. I say this being a bass player in addition to guitar. I whore myself out playing bass because all the bands around here play the same old classic rock and I don't have to prepare to play any of it on bass.
