So the shutdown was averted, with funding for planned parenthood and enforcement of the clean air act being the main sticking points. Kind of like Walker in Wisconsin taking away collective bargaining from public employees, all about the budget, even though the unions agreed to 100% of the cuts Walker wants to make.
Politeness is a discipline that compels respectful behavior. Morality is like a politeness of the soul, an etiquette of the inner life, a code of duties, a ceremonial of the essential.

Obama is running for re-election, it was a PR stunt to make him look like a hero. And everyone fell for it.

Personally I blame Yanoda for the government shutdown. He is the only one with that kind of power. His ability to shut the server down is almost legendary.

I say we vote Yanoda in as the next President!

Just my 2 cents :P

(ok so in reality, I think that both parties are to blame. If I ran my house the way Congress runs theirs, I would be out of a place to live)

Don't be hating on Wisconsin for trying to change what we view to be a troubled future. You do not live here, do not pay taxes here, nor vote here. Collective bargaining for government workers is not a Right. Even FDR, one of the most Progressive Presidents in our history saw that collective bargainig for government employees was a very bad thing and fought against it.

Clean up Illinois before you start criticizing Wisconsin and it's legally elected public officials standing up for it's citizens, and not the unions.

The unions may have agreed to the cuts but as soon as a democrat got in they would have all been re-instated, the power to stop this in the future was needed. Collective bargining for a business is one thing, but when the source of income for the business (government) has "bottomless" wealth ie. the taxpayer, and the taxpayer has no say, then all the government has to do is say yes to the unions demands and increase the taxes to pay for it. These unions then take that money to elect more people that agree to their demands for more of the taxpayers money, a vicious cycle. Margaret Thatcher had it right when she said "the problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other peoples' money"
"The democracy will ceases to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not" Thomas Jefferson

For the first time I kind of feel proud now that you mention it... is that wrong? :whistling:

No one entity should receive the blame, they all contributed to the current situation.
In terms of collective bargaining, I disagree that it should be removed. Considering the government jobs like Police, Firefighters, Teachers etc... They are important for society. On top of that, they earn much less than those with comparable education and/or within work situations.

The parties just cannot compromise, for instance: A Bill for cutting funding for a specific project, democrats would go with a cut of 30 billion, while republicans want a 60 billion cut. Instead of compromising to a 45 billion cut, they just bicker until the Bill goes down the drain.

Cheers
