I would have him over and grill steaks for him and his girl. Get some good lager or ale, not the cheap shtuff either and show him what a wonderful thing he did for you and your family. ( Thats what I would do anyway. I am a really good grill master. )

Well, the first things that come to mine are:

1) Flowers
2) Basket of Fruit
3) All night titty bar hopping (all expenses paid by you...both of you are single of course)
4) If you were in Thailand, definitely get him a 'Foamy' or 'Rub and scrub'...maybe two. (That's the 'gift that keeps on giving' because of the wonderful memories he'll have )
5) A wide screen TV (a big ass one)
6) a gun....a big gun
7) Radio controlled helicopter
8) Buy tickets for a sporting event, amusement park, concert or special exhibition.
9) Buy something for his car, computer or tool chest.
10) Stock a gift basket with his favorite wines, beers and gourmet foods, or give a gift certificate for his favorite restaurant.
11) Pay for maid service or yard service for a month.
12) A keg of beer with a Kegerator with beer tap for his man-cave downstairs in his house

I don't know about the dinner...sounds alittle "intimate". He's a guy..does he like sports?..favorite team(s)? Take him out to a sports bar for drinks and fare.

I think dinner would be a good idea if families are involved, otherwise a sports bar is better.

Despite what mkay guy said about gift cards, I would suggest a $50 gift card to the dudes favorite restaurant. Make it clear that that's for him and his girlfriend. He'll appreciate the gift card and the time with his lady.
