When you have a security problem, keep getting guns until you don't.

When you don't have a security problem, keep getting guns until you do.

I'm just curious for Americans here, would you prefer a burglar getting into your house, and both you and the burglar are armed, or neither being armed..

Far too late for that. The guns are here- plenty of them. The question is really; the burglar is armed... are you?

I prefer to be armed. Most of the time someone burglarizing houses will be carrying a smaller weapon. I have a 12 ga pump near my bed and a few other surprises as well. If I am going to get hurt, I might as well have the chance to do some hurting back.

Alright, i'm gonna be honest here - if I was going to burglarize a house, I sure as hell wouldn't be planning on killing those people. Doing time for getting busted stealing is a hell of a lot shorter than getting busted for attempted or straight up murder.

interesting...so how are the laws of trespassing in the USA? I've seen some idiotic things happening in Belgium with burglars....

But you would carry a weapon in case the homeowner caught you...

Most don't. The "armed thug" you're picturing is actually a small minority of robberies - most are unarmed people entering empty homes.

[m'kay] no I wouldn't, man. If i'm trying to steal someone's [poo], i'm not trying to get into a gunfight. In a perfect world, the homeowner would carry a gun, point it at the guy, and the guy would surrender. However, a lot of gun owners who want to protect their home are really looking for a reason to use them on someone. I don't trust 90% of people who hold guns in their home to be able to use them in an emergency. Of those 10% that are left, there are very few that I trust to be able to not use them in an emergency. A burglar is there to steal your [poo], not to rape and kill your family. You want to defend your [poo]? Hell yeah, no problems there. But is your TV worth a human life? Is it worth the guilt that comes from blowing someone's head off and having to clean their brains off your wall and carpet? What if your kids see? You're teaching them that stealing is punishable by death, and no amount of words are going to teach them otherwise after seeing the body hit the floor. If someone tries to steal my stuff, i'll beat the ever-living [poo] out of them and leave them out to dry for the cops, and that'll be the end of it.

Escalate the violence as suits the situation. A burglar doesn't need buckshot in his chest, he needs an ass-whooping. And frankly, I feel like if you can't kill someone with your bare hands, you have no business waving a gun around and talking about protecting people. If you aren't prepared to dig your thumbs into someone's throat and watch the life drain from their eyes as they thrash about, then either you aren't prepared to take a life, or you don't have to. Pulling a gun out means you are going to kill someone. It shouldn't mean you're going to scare them, or intimidate them into leaving - it should mean you are going to [m'kay] end their life. If you want to scare them, you don't have to use a gun. Hell, most burglars think there's nobody in the house, so shouting should get them to leave right the [m'kay] away. Pointing a pistol at them? Congratulations, you have now forced them to choose fight or flight. Before, fighting wasn't even a choice, because instinct would have gotten him right the [m'kay] outta there - but now that his life is directly threatened, rational thought has jumped out the third story window. The situation has now escalated to a life or death battle, and someone's going to bleed.

I'm not going to do that kinda [poo]. Burglars don't carry guns unless they're absolute dip [poo]. If they're absolute dip [poo], then a shout will get them to piss themselves and run, or make them scared, in which case well damn son he's got no clue what the [m'kay] he's doing, or where you are, so you can get him easily. Basically, I don't need guns to defend myself, and using them would just make things way the [m'kay] worse than they'd have to be. Just work out and take some MMA lessons or something, boom you have a way to fight that is way more useful and gets you a [poo] load less jail-time then accidentally shooting some kid who walked in unannounced. You guys might have the discipline to handle guns, but you're sure as hell not the majority of nuts who think they can play God if someone waltzes into their house.
