Actually, he doesn't. Weirds him out or something. He tries not the acknowledge that she is. He shares my views about homosexuality (meaning he supports LGBT right's) and the like, he's just... being weird. My dad is weird, love that crazy bastard nonetheless.

It sounds to me like "civil unions" need to be up for debate and not marriage. Two gays can get married all they want in a church, they still aren't really married per church rules. The church rulebook is of course the bible. (and let's be honest, christian marriage is what they're gunning for so I don't care to hear about the other religions)

Should gays be able to get "married"? NO
Should a gay couple have the same rights and benefits as a married couple? YES
Should the government be involved in a debate over "marriage'? NO
Should the government provide a legal term that equals marriage for the gays, agnostics, what have you? YES

This is so damn simple but we make it so damn hard.

Except it's not that simple. There's also a big issue:

They want the right to be married, not the right to "civil union." Because most of the time, it's more about the spiritual commitment behind getting married than the federal benefits. And they don't have the right to be married in most states, because it's not just religious. There's legal benefits to being married, and that must be regulated by laws. That makes sense.

What needs to be done is strip the legal benefits from marriage, and force everyone (gay, or straight) to get a "civil union" in order to get those federal benefits. That way marriage can stop being regulated by law completely, and homosexuals can get married in churches that support them for the spiritual commitment they long for.

So you're right, we make it harder than need be, however it's also not quite as simple as you put it.

But at the end of the day, what I suggested won't happen. We have to play by their rules.

It doesn't er anyway. North Korea is going to accidentally blow themselves up along with parts of South Korea, Japan and China causing a possible war in the far east and a meltdown of the global economy. Iran continues their pursuit of nukes during the current distractions and the scales will tip to a boiling point that Israel will finally have to react. We all know where that will lead. Meanwhile American infrastructure continues it's decline, ie- roads, power/water supply, etc to a point that when the world does erupt, there will be sections of our country that will resemble 3rd world countries. But yeah, gay marriage and gays in the military, these things need to be addressed asap. (not aiming this at you Wulf, just our population in general)

Let North Korea start the war up again. It'll be over in 3 months, tops. Besides the occupation anyway, and we all know Iraq was so fun. They don't have the supplies for a long war(especially considering the US pretty much feeds their nation and military), and either their leader knows this (and won't start the war up again), or is insane. Which is quite possible.

Meanwhile China's military is grossly under-equiped, despite being large. Again, let them go to war. NATO will smack them back down. Hell, it'd get rid of all the damn sexual tension between our countries so we can [m'kay] and make up.

Iran? Let Israel smack them down, I welcome it. I'm tired of Iran's bullsheet. Israel has the right to strike first to avoid a nasty nuclear war that would result in Iran being turned into a field of nuclear glass.

When it comes to gay marriage, it's a civil right's issue. And civil right's are important to a LOT of people, including myself. Not to mention that fighting for these civil right's doesn't cost us much, and helps distract us from the bigger worries that the majority of us can do nothing about. I can't control the flow of military power on this Earth, but I can fight for human right's, and I will do so.

To the people opposing same-sex marriage, replace "gay", "homosexual", etc. with "black" and your argument is completely shut down.

Of course that section of MATTHEW'S_DAD's post wasn't completely wrong, but still. It's just an example of what I mean when I say replace X with Y.

My whole point of this is to get people to realize that completely stripping (lol stripping) a group or classification of people of their rights is always wrong - it doesn't er what the Bible says, the Bible isn't always right (mostly Leviticus lol).

Being gay and being black are not equal things and to compare race and sexual orientation makes no sense. I stand by my comments.
