Many religious groups wish to have protection/freedom of religion. They want religion to be freely taught in schools, at home etc...
Others wish to have protection/freedom from religion. They do not want religion to be freely taught and enforced on every school, at home etc...

Why can't it JUST be 'separation of Church and State'. Religion does not meddle with the State and the State does not meddle with Religion.
Religious schools can teach their Religion without problems and Public Schools can teach non-Religion without problems. Private schools can choose if they wish to teach Religion or not. Wouldn't that be sufficient for both/all sides?

It's sad that the two principle people arguing the point of "seperation between church and state" do not know what that truly means. What the founding fathers did not want was to have the government establish a particular denomination dominate over the government or the people. Such was the case in England when the monarchy had forced Protestantism on the people. So when the founding fathers started to create our government they took this into consideration. Whether or not the founding fathers were diest or Christians or whatever they believed in the existence of God and it was not their intentions to negate or remove the belief of God from society. It's sad yet strange that withn the past 25 years there has been such a great attempt to remove any concept of Christian religion from our government and schools etc when the generations before that never had a problem with it. I'm sure the majority of your grandparents and parents for that matter never question why a navitiy scene would have been seen and celebrated on the front yard of a courthouse during Christmas time. Most likely because they knew and understood and celebrated it due to the fact that without this particular religious event. Christmas would never have come to pass and this holiday would never have been celebrated. I just wonder if and when the American courts start taking Shariah law into consideration and making law and decisions based on it. If there will be the same kind of protest.

I'm sorry, this post is just ignorant. Although a few of the founding fathers did believe strongly in the incorporation of religion into the government, many did not advocate this. For example, Thomas Jefferson:

Mr. President

To messers Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson, a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.

Gentlemen

The affectionate sentiments of esteem and approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful and zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, & in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more and more pleasing.

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from prescribing even those occasional performances of devotion, practiced indeed by the Executive of another nation as the legal head of its church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association assurances of my high respect & esteem.

(signed) Thomas Jefferson
Jan.1.1802.

Several colonies like that of Rhode Island established the freedom of worship (I know, different from separation of church and state) as early as their founding! My point is government and religion should NOT be intertwined. Also, your logic of forcing Christian beliefs in the PUBLIC school system is daft. Nonchristians pay taxes on public schools as well as Christians, and therefore should not be subject to systematic conversion. And really!?, Shariah Law being forced in U.S. Courts; that is ridiculous and is never going to happen.

Apparently you missed my original point of the seperation of church and state and why the founding fathers came up with the idea. So your statement is ignorant in itself. Maybe if took the time to actually to read what I said you might have learned something from my original point.

I was going to try and argue with some of you guys, but I decided to pluck it and just state my views and run like all heII broke loose.

"I'm never right, so you can quote me — but I believe the only good that happens is that a third party arises. A real third party. Because what I find irritating about the whole Tea Party thing is that they've driven me to the center, and I'm really not happy there." -Lewis Black

Lewis Black, my hero. I love his anger, his anger towards politics and how the country has been going for the past decade(he's been angry for a long time).

I have Democratic values and Republican values. I used to sway to the right, but not anymore. I hate both parties with a passion. I'm not even going to vote in 2012 because I can't find a candidate I like.

I'm a Christian. I hate putting me into some stupid sub-group like Catholics or Lutherans. Every single sub-group is stupid, created by humans to change Christianity to suit their own goals. I however respect all religion (I'm a hypocrite, I have a couple exceptions, Scientology being one of them). If you're Jewish, Muslim, Buddist, Christian, etc, I respect you.

I'm a human rights activist. I believe woman, gay people(h o m o really should be off of the censored words list), transexuals, and everyone else is equal. I don't even like seeing in race, but I think all races should be equal in every way as well.

Any kid should be allowed to pray at any time for his religion in school, in any school. But for god sakes don't make it mandatory.

People like Risk Perry make me want to punch a hole in the O-zone so he suffocates. (I know it doesn't work like that, don't anyone give me a science lecture)

If you disagree, you're wrong.
