Atheism is simply having a lack of a belief in a religion. No more, no less. There are no teachings attached to it or mythology to form its basis, so I don't see how exactly it is a fairy tale. And people choose to be atheist for many reasons, not just those you listed above.
That isn't correct. Agnosticism is 'simply having a lack of a belief in a religion. No more, no less'. Atheism takes it a step further, asserting that a God absolutely does not and cannot exist.
