I'm not questioning your motives or even Obama's motives or Feinstien's motive's. What I question is that these people are not looking ahead to when they are no longer in control and people unknown to us today are the ones enforcing our laws years from now. Any governmental history will show you that. I have the same stance on the control of pot, alcohol, abortion, religion, finances, healthcare, etc. The less we allow the government to handle for us, the better off our future generations will be. What we have done with laws that were passed 200 years (interstate commerce clause for example) is nothing close to the original intent. ANY GOVERNMENT will use ANY LEGISLATION to further grow itself. It's inevitable and there's no stopping it, I would just like to do what I can to slow it down as much as possible.

Yes, that was a simplistic answer. No, I'm not having the discussion over again just because you've forgotten how to get to page 4.

ANY GOVERNMENT will use ANY LEGISLATION to further grow itself. It's inevitable and there's no stopping it, I would just like to do what I can to slow it down as much as possible.

Then we have a fundamental disagreement which is unrelated to this issue, because the only "appropriate" size for the government is one that maximizes utility - makes the situation as good as possible for everyone.

Could we get back to the question of whether restrictive gun laws on the entire populace have been shown to affect crime, and in what direction?

So them having guns would've stopped the Nazis? Didn't Nazi Germany successfully invade French and Russian territory? I'm pretty sure those countries had armies with lots and lots of guns. You're fooling yourself if you think a Jewish person would have fared better in 1938 Nazi Germany simply by having a gun.

Do you have specific examples? I've heard Australia cited, but that appears to be false (quoting a liberal or conservative website does nothing to help your case). I've also heard Britain (armed robbery includes any type of weapon in Britain, they only speak of fireamred robbery) mentioned, but, the conclusion there also seems to be "no significant change (if you think american media is the only one capable of "spin", you are sadly misinformed)."

Keeping track of legal gun owners (or diminishing their capacity to defend themselves) will only encourage the "bad guys". When the gun registry happens, criminals will have access to it via the freedom of information act so they know which houses to break in. Nutjobs will know which theaters, mall and schools will have a less chance of someone shooting back. Sounds like a terrible idea to me....

Where do I get my information? People and documents. I have lived and worked all over this country. I have tattooed in NYC and did a fair amount of electrical work on the Cosmopolitan Casino in Las Vegas. I have friends all over Europe. I've been to Washington, D.C. several times with a police escort (my aunt and uncle) and seen things not many else can claim. I KNOW most of the internet and newspapers and politicians of this country, liberal or conservative, are full of [poo]. Our rights, freedoms and basic dignity have been systematically stripped from us over the last 30 years.

I loved this country, it's been sad watching its death throes. I hope I don't live to see its end.
