Granted, I did overreact. I didn't realise it was all a joke.

Well, it's not to say it isn't within the realm of possibilities. The best thing the Prez and Congress can do right now is listen to each other, and have honest, faithful negotiations. We, as a Nation, are heavily devided...more so than I've ever witnessed...perhaps more than ever...idk. But what I do know, is if our Government does not work together, and 'respect' each individual States Sovereignty, and stop forcing states to comply with laws it does not like, we will soon be headed down a path that we haven't seen since the late 1850's, and just prior to the Revolutionary War.

I hope it doesn't go that way. Too many people will suffer, and it certainly isn't the best direction to go while there's a chance of hope. Obama is the key player in all this, and he's going to also need to be a fair referee too for both sides to work together. If he takes a strict partisan approach and attitude (It's my way or the Highway), it will be doomed to fail from that point on.

If that happens, I strongly encourage the purchasing and investment in Lead, gunpowder and guns...and precious metals. The Twinkies are gone, so stock up on other foods too.

We're divided thanks to our silly liberal federal government and their lack of any sense of financial responsibility. Texas is mainly conservative Republicans. If the majority of a State wish to receed, what will stop them? This won't happen.

Of course, I say that. When we hit Greece levels of poverty and debt, THEN our nation will break apart. Again, thanks to our silly liberal money spending government. Liberals will be the downfall of the greatest nation of the past 500 years.

Yes, because the Republican Party sure has proved to us in the past three decades how financially responsible they are... :-|

Don't kid yourself, the Republicans are no longer the fiscal conservatives they used to me. Hell, my state's Republican Senatorial candidate, Tom Smith, ran his entire campaign on the fact that he would increase Social Security and Defense while the big-bad Democrat, Bob Casey Jr., wanted to cut these programs...

And 2012 - 500 =/= 1776.

I don't like to state my opinion on the political affairs of other countries but I think both parties have their share of the problem. Both Bush and Obama have done massive bailouts and that is why the government is in debt.

No, the government does not need to respect states' "sovereignty". This sounds like pre-Civil-War rhetoric. The nation fundamentally does not work that way anymore. In the minds of the vast majority, you're a citizen of the US first, and your state second.

Thank you for admitting that a "my way or the highway" stonewalling approach is a bad thing. If you would tell that to your Congresspeople, so they don't repeat exactly that from last term, that would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, if you really believe there's some kind of apocalypse coming: don't bother investing in precious metals. Remember, they're just a fiat currency too.

What will stop them? The laws prohibiting them from seceding peacefully. The military bases, loyal to the President, that can swiftly turn from a defensive force into an occupying force. The vast economic benefits to them from membership in the US. The huge number of residents who do not want to leave.

Not commenting on the rhetoric unless you make a coherent argument instead of "spending money is bad".

Dependency on the Federal Government for programs like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, funding for highways, a larger resource pool, a feasible amount of economic certainty, the 24.5 million resident who don't wish to secede.

The United States will never end up in a similar disposition to Greece. Why? Consumer confidence. Investors all over the world bank on the assumption that the US will recover, and heretofore, the country's industry and output have not failed them.
