Sorry, My grandpa and I have been having a discussion about this too. He calls them clips and I find myself in the habit of doing it also.

lol He might just do that if he actually had internet....For some reason he doesn't feel its necessary to know what is really right or what is really just ignorance and stupidity.

Argh... the magazine/clip thing has always been a big pet peeve of mine.

If the shells are held together with a metal clip, it's a clip.
If the shells are held together with a hollow metal box, it's a magazine.

But people refuse to call them magazines, "clip" sounds cooler despite being erroneous.

This isn't a dig to anyone here, this is to all the other people who just are plain idiots about it.

Keep in consideration all the dialects around, and that very few people care if it's correct or incorrect.
Clip is very heard of, I've always used the term "mag" instead, feels a bit more natural to me i guess.
