P.S. Who the hell is this captain sparrow guy?

LOL!...And Haas is right. What I was aiming at, is the 'traditional' Aetheist, who just doesn't believe in 'anything'. But I do wish the Aetheist was more toward Mandalore's way of thinking. At least you could debate a belief in 'something'.

Traditional Atheist? That's a bit of a generalization.

How so? The atheist has the right of Freedom of Speech to go against it (even Christmas Trees etc.), same as a Christian can go against legal marriage for homosexuals or not letting them serve in the military.

Several Christians keep denying others of their rights (due to their beliefs), yet cry wolf when their own religion/beliefs are attacked/denied the same way.

That is what I was trying to convey, favoring one over the other is just hypocritical. Either, let them both express themselves or not at all.

Also, Christmas Trees were considered Pagan by Americans until around the 1840s. A Cleveland minister almost lost his job in 1851 because he let a Christmas tree in church. Only 1 in 5 Americans had Christmas trees by 1900. By 1920, the Tree became universal in the USA. Several historians say that the original concept of the tradition were used by the Egyptians, Romans and even Pagans. So the original tradition does not have Christian origins.

Cheers

And besides nearly all atheists are humanists, we just don't believe in a lord muppet in the sky. And what's his face has a point about the wolf crying thing. Crying bear is so much more in vogue.

And I still don't know who this sparrow jack ass is, calling me by my nickname.

I'll give you a hint, small fry - The name's Smith, or Smithy if you like.

But I prefer to go by Sparrow sometimes, that's my nick name.

Well I don't think it's Smith. Well, the only "Smith" worthy of recognition. Unless he's agent #38 or whatever the hell the name was. Honestly you JBA players are a dime a dozen. And that's an inflated value. :P

Nah man, it's me #38. I had hoped that the name and profile pic change wouldn't confuse people too much.

Yanoda wrote:What about the protests (across the Nation) that occurred when Muslims wanted to build a Mosque? Most of the protesters were Christians.

The argument against the Banner in Cranston West High School, is based on the premise that the school is a government funded school (aka public school). Their reason is that a public school should be religiously neutral, not favoring one religion over the other. Sure the ACLU may have gone a little overboard, they could of just asked to make the Banner more religiously neutral instead of just removing it.

If the School should have the (religious) message of the Banner protected, then Muslims should also be able to build their Mosques to freely practice their religion.

Choosing one over the other just seems hypocritical IMHO.

Cheers

I give a rats ass where they build a mosque... or a church or temple or satanic altar. My 2 cents on that is building a mosque at ground zero is asking for trouble, but I wouldnt protest it.
My point on the banner in the high school is that it has been there for over 50 years not hurting anyone. Hell, maybe it even inspired a student or two (though probably not). How is it that the words "our father" and "amen" can be construed as offensive? Its not; thats how. Its one person, whose existence in the building is limited to four years, using the goddamn aclu to waste taxpayer money. If a person doesnt believe in something, how can they be offended by it?
Im far from religious- probably more aethestic than anything myself. I do, however, believe in "live and let live".

First of all, it's not even a Mosque, it's a Community Centre. Secondly, I agree that the banner is less than likely to offend somebody, but why take the chance? I don't think that people dislike it because it is offensive, they dislike it because their taxpayer money is funding something they don't believe in...
By the way, the American Civil Liberties Union, although maybe extreme, fights a battle for equality that the majority of Americans now support.

'the Majority'?!?...says who?!...Prove it. Let's see the stats for over 250 million people voting 'yay' or 'nay' on the merits of the ACLU.
