"War on Christmas"

As the title suggests, I hear this quite often lately (mostly from Christians and Fox News). What is it really all about?
Isn't it just an over-exaggeration or is there more to it?
There seems to be something about Santa Monica recently, can someone explain this?

Christmas? Or the attacks against celebrating it? If it's Christmas, well... You know what it's about. Seriously, the attacks seem to grow ever stronger, to the point that any 'celebration' of it in any public forum is getting really bad. Stores have for many years now, been afraid to use the word 'Christmas', preferring 'Holiday Season' or 'Happy Holidays'...maybe because it has been so huge a season in America over the centuries, but we've become too diverse in culture latetly, that the asttacks have begun and are growing stronger. Pockets of stories all over. Basically, it and the right to display the U.S. Flag seem to be the subjects of the biggest assault. If a Muslim wants to bow on a prayer rug toward Mecca in the middle of a public park, I don't have any problem with it. To me it's the same as open prayer or displaying a Christmas Manger scene in public. To attack these freedoms, is, to me, an attack by the state on the Church/Mosque/Synagoge, etc. If it's peaceful, let it be.

This doesn't seem to me to be an "attack", just individual businesses exercising their freedom to celebrate no or multiple religious holidays. Is there any kind of more organized change, or do you think it's just a shift in the culture?

Hope ur not setting me up for an attack Crater, but There is definitely a shift in culture, however the only 'organized' attacks that I've seen evolve from the more outspoken Atheists and pockets of angry individuals whom believe in using the full force of the ACLU. And I believe alot of businesses fear being sued repeatedly over this, so they just keep the Holidays generalized.

lol this thread is so deja vu

.... and going a bit off topic: Fox news and cnn (american version) are cheap imitations of news. Only thing I like about both is Bill O'Reilley and Wolf Blitzer. Besides that, I don't like them. I used to watch CNN a lot when I lived in Brazil, but it is different in other countries, I was watching the CNN (international version) which is like 1000 times better. Back then I knew about everything going on around the world... now when I see CNN (american version) I only see news about Afghanistan and Democrat/Republican political conflict. Now I know why CNN is doing so bad lately... and Fox News, as I said before, I only watch it because of O'Reilly.

Let me guess you think NBC, MSNBC, CBS and ABC are totally unbiased, subjective and fair in their assestment of the things that they report? If you believe that they are then you are [m'kay] stupid.

No I don't believe that. I did not say those were any better. I was just refering to those two because they are, in my opinion, the most famous. All news channels around the world are biased anyway, but what i'm saying is that I prefer the international version of cnn, it is way better. Less politics and more news.

and people need to learn a bit more about how to make comments without saying others are stupid. Maybe you are for assuming things with no information.

Yan, what are your primary sources for news? You obviously have your prefrences.

Yeah, I watch Fox News, FBN, and scan through the Drudge Report. I also enjoy 60 Minutes and will flip to HLN and maybe CNN. I only go to MSNBC when I need a good laugh. And for what it's worth, I'm no bible beater by any means.

To answer your question...yes, Christmas is under attack. Not by anyone specific as I believe it's just being attacked in general by our overly tolerant society. Kinda ironic huh?

60 minutes is nice... I wish I had the chance of watching it abroad
