Why is the government involved in marriage of any sort?

Anyone who has ever been married knows, it's always the same sex.

This is a non issue and thrown out there to distract the sheep from what new and clever ways both sides of politics are inventing to [m'kay] us up the ass.

Across the pond, Parliament voted whether gay marriage should be legal in February. The votes were 400-175 in favour of gay marriage. All I can say to this is: about damn time.

Because it's a contract, and one with a lot of legal consequences.

Anyway, my stance on this: same-sex marriage should obviously be legal. In fact, the entire concept of "gender" really shouldn't have any legal relevance at all.

Because the government makes it that way. I see marriage as nothing more than a private and sometimes spiritual contract between two humans to live together under one name and household. Why is there any need for the government to dictate these arrangements?
