something brewing in Asia

Ok, something big is about to happen. I just don't know why it has not hit news in the U.S yet since this has been going on for almost a year now. There have been increasing tensions in Japan and China over some islands. If something happens, the U.S will get sucked into it since there is a treaty where the U.S will protect Japan (remnant of the second world war I guess).

it's amazing how something massive could happen and no one pays attention to the small but growing trends leading to it. It's very hard to see, and at the same time it is visible like lightning.

Old news. This has been disputed for years. They've just gotten more vocal and brazen about it.

besides, I always felt that people here in the U.S see it as a simple territorial dispute in some far away land... but the consequences could be huge. If just one chinese ship crosses the waters again, that will be the start of it. Just one ship or one drone is enough to start it. Abe said the japanese would not ignore the intrusions anymore and would shoot down anything that crossed the border. The response of the Chinese was the same as always, which was basicallly " we will go in there again, and if you shoot anything, we will strike back" (not exact words, but that was what I felt of it)

The Chinese sense weakness in US leadership. I am not surprised. I am surprised it took them this long to start pushing harder.

and I am surprised at how many opportunities the U.S and Japan have given to China as well. If any country dared to send a drone over U.S borders, it would be shot down immediately. The Japanese have let the chinese cross the border several times with no retaliation just to avoid a conflict. But the fact that Abe said he would not allow it anymore, is a sign that if the Chinese do it one more time, the japanese will use force, and the U.S is automatically involved. Not only because of the treaty of defense of japan, but because the U.S has troops in Taiwan as well.

the other times were different. They would cross and nothing would happen. Now that will not be allowed anymore.

piccard facepalm lol

and I find it pretty odd that Australia's prime minister did a surprise visit to afghanistan to withdraw troops (they were going to do that already, but the fact that he decided to put a ceremonial end yesterday, means he wants to speed the withdrawal). Also, the U.S and New Zealand started military cooperation after 30 years without doing so... again, that happened today.
