My computer keeps freezing...

Every time I use my computer(a piece of crap vista), after about maybe 30 minutes, the screen freezes and I have to reboot. I know this isn't a connection problem, because it happened when I was in single player on SWBF. My mom just had the screen freeze while she was doing bills online.

Questions: Have you recently installed anything (hardware/software)? Does your computer make a lot of noise before/during freeze? If it's a laptop, is it extremely hot?

Suggestions: Run windows/microsoft updates to make sure you have all the latest patches. Open the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc or ctrl+alt+del), select processes tab and click CPU so it will order the list by CPU usage. Watch the list while you're on the computer to see if one process is taking up near 100% (or 50% for dual core) - if so then that program is freezing your computer.

I think maybe you downloaded too many viruses from the porn sites. Did you do a Virus scan?

I for one think it should be thawed out before using. This freezing stuff sounds bad for a computer.

Just kidding about the porn

I suppose it's possible your computer's processor can't run that 'Steam' program while gaming because it's too much for it to handle. Give us your computer specifications, and like Bryant said, their are certain things possibly running in the background that you don't need, and can just disable, like when you startup your computer.

I may also recommend two things:
1) Type the word "msconfig" in your 'Search' box in bottom left. Go to the 'Startup' tab and disable the crud that you don't need to run the computer. Alot of those programs you can start when you 'need' them by clicking on their icons. You will have to restart the computer once you do this for it to take effect. Be careful what you disable.

2) Download 'Gamebooster 3' Have it running while gaming. It shuts off like 40% extra useless crud running in the background that you may not see in the startup tab.
Hope it helps.

Unfortunately, I use steam to play swbf. Fortunately, all I needed to do was stop the process "sidebar", this thing on the right of my desktop that had random applications(Stocks, Usage, games, news). It was using 50k KB, so bye-bye sidebar! ;)

Make sure to run a scandisk and scan for bad sectors.

I've discovered the real problem, turns out I was overthinking it. All that was happening was that my legs kept pushing the computer into the wall whenever I move around in my chair, and it caused the plugs to bend.
