I would rather pay 700$ and get something loads better than the PS3 that can play a lot more games and run everything on it better. And get games for free.

you get games for free? you mean like combat arms and ava? or do you mean breaking the law?

EDIT. jamwin, I got mine for 220 @ gamestop, although it's only a 40 gig hd, I can upgrade to a bigger harddrive anytime for about 50$, and the 40 will last me a while.

If all you want to do is play games, a 'gaming rig' is a really crappy investment.
If you build a new top of the line rig today, in 4 years you wont be playing new games without upgrading. I can promise you, however, that my PS3 will still rock the hell out of anything released for it. I wont be spending 2-300 on a new video card and I will never have to search for updated drivers.
I have a 17" laptop which surfs the web and sends email just fine.

Haas on the flipside of your argument. In probably 1-2 years your PS3 technology wise will be outdated and they'll have even more powerful processors and video which would probably warrant a PS4 and thus you may eventually have to spend another $700 to upgrade to the new one.

ps3 is going to be around for another 3-4 years, yet people have to spend 200+ dollars to upgrade their video card every few years to be able to play games on "very high". sure in a few years the pc will have noticably better graphics than the ps3, but you still don't see games like madden, kz2, uncharted 1 and 2, little big planet, infamous..... the list goes on, even with better graphics, the ps3 still has the best releases.

Although I love playing games on the PS3 and can't play an FPS with a keyboard and mouse... I DO concur with you on this. The problem is that my PS3 killed 2 birds with one stone in terms of the gaming system and a blu-ray player. My question is whether the PS4... WHENEVER it comes out... will offer anything aside from an updated game system?

Infamous was barely decent, LBP is amazing, uncharted 2 is great but 1 sucks, had very little fun with KZ2, and Madden makes me want to kill babies. I suck so hard at those games.

however, mass effect two did NOT come out on ps3, :(. infamous three was amazing, madden is good even if it has a bit of a steep learning curve.
I have not indeed played uncharted one so I wouldn't know, I was just throwing that name out there.
