How can you keep your ping down? Mine is always really high. Is it because I live in Canada? :star-wars-smiley-026:

If you're in Canada, it shouldn't be too high. What is your ping?

Just check you're not running any background programs.

I live in Canada as well, (West Coast) and my ping can be anywhere from 105-176.

My ping is usually around 50-80, but I still get lag. Its probably either the server or the fact that I use a laptop.

Anything can affect it. Ping is one of two things: 1) it can be a program, and 2) it can also be a measure of the quality of any two computers ability to speak to each other over the internet. It isn't an armchair sport you can call from the sideline. you have to get into the reasons why your communications may be slow. What might those be? Any number of things:

1. Slow or old graphics card, or bad memory in it.
2. Insufficient computer memory.
3. It is Tuesday.
4. Bad internet connection.
5. Bad phone jack at the wall.
6. Gremlins.
7. Bad phone connection on your outside jack.
8. Bad connection between your outside service and the main switch.
9. Old phone lines in your house.
10. Are you wireless? Bad wireless interference.
11. Are you across country? Something is slowing you down between here and there.
12. Slow computer main cpu.
13. Have an older brother? Its sabotage.
14. Get off of dial up.

You see? Anything that slows your computer down can cause bad ping. Ping can vary widely for some people, and almost not at all for others.
The easiest fix is what most people say: Get a graphics card, or have your internet or phone lines checked.
More than you every wanted to know about ping. This needs to be a sticky note....

having a wireless router in your house instead of connecting via cable can slow you down. When my roommates download pr0n, i get way laggier.
