Unless I'm wrong, which has actually happened, once, I don't think we need GameSpy. I haven't logged in since forever ago.

Didn't this same concern crop up some...what...3 years ago? I didn't think it has anything to do with our servers?

GameSpy is shutting down their master servers to their games, which is what runs online. Without the master server, there's nothing for dedicated servers to connect to.

GameSpy runs the server list. It essentially means no more public online game play. However, I know Eyes started a project to make a replacement server in anticipation of this happening. It's a big project and I currently don't have time to help myself (not that it's really part of my expertise)...

:whistling: Shows how little is known about the actual game. A Gamespy account is only used for player stat tracking and social features. Games that use the Gamespy SDK rely on the master server for client-server connections, and more importantly NAT negotiation. Without the lobby and natneg functions of the master server, online functions of the game are broken.

Edit: Darn, bryant you were #2 on the big 3 list. Anyone that knows C++ can help :3

In addition, back in 2012, Glu Mobile bought GameSpy Industries, Inc. from IGN Entertainment. They ended support for Star Wars: Battlefront in late 2012, and shut down the website in February 2013. However, GameSpy Technologies remained a separate entity, and thus, many other games relying on the SDK still operated since the website shutdown. But, as announced by the company, they plan to shut down this separate entity as well, effectively dissolving GameSpy as a whole.

Now, about 800 games are going to be affected by this shutdown.

Edit: What project are you talking about, Bryant? :whistling:

Hey Eyes shoot me a line and I'll write some C++ code for you, still got my books from my high school days that. (And yes before any of you start wondering my teacher was fluent in several computer languages and taught an entire year of C++ and independent study classes on top of that since Windows was written in C++.)
