It's different for each clan. Some clans have websites and an application form, some clans do it over Skype, some do it through xFire...it depends what clan you intend on joining.

Who's the middle man between the actual game running on our pc's and the SWGO servers?
Does Gamespy have any power then?

Gamespy was purchased awhile ago, and the current ownership is in need of cutting costs. Their support for most games will entirely evaporate by May 31 - the only way to change that is to invest in Eyes' project or contact Disney/LucasArts and have them move the dependency for SWBFII from Gamespy to another system.
