Increased network latency on servers

Hey guys.

I noticed that the servers have been a bit more laggy lately. People getting hit by stuff when they shouldn't. Shots looking like they've hit but not registering. Sometimes on the Hero Assault server I can swing and half a second later have my enemy get hit by the swing. It's not easy to spot - it's just a smidge more laggier than normal.

Did any of the server settings you guys used to optimize the server settings on the initial setup change? Just want to make sure - I've made sure to turn off any programs that use bandwith while playing SWBF2 to make sure it's not my side.

I have to agree with Talon, the delays are becoming more evident to a wider scope of players. Even though I am in the UK there are US players mentioning the fact there is lag and these players have pings of 150. I also seen a couple of spikes where the pings were at 110 then jumped to 150 and then back to 107 in a few seconds so not sure what is happening there? The server was not full at that time.

I have been spectating and you can see the delays, lag spikes whatever you want to call them and it does effect the game. I have been seeing one hit kills on players when they have almost full health, spikes where a player lands and does not move, dash attacks which continue to hold the player who is attacking for an extended period of time.

Perhaps this could be due to the amount of people online during the holidays?

I'm sure the server will be ok but perhaps putting some performance counters in place for a period of time (Matt) might be an idea to analyse any trends relating to NIC's etc?

Regards,

Kren

yes ive been having pretty bad lag on JBA lately

i was playing this morning, only about 5-8 people in the server but nobody had pings lower that 110.

we should find out what SP uses, i dont lag much on that server

*edit* The -][C][- server was hosted by http://artofwarcentral.com/ and if i remember correctly, didnt have much lag

I just got hit by the network latency icon while on the Hero Assault server. I remember there were severe storms causing problems for everyone here. I'm assuming there's major packet loss happening on the provider side, possibly due to these storms. Packets needing be rerouted to less than optimal hosts, I don't know.

I'll donate a little more money if we have to up the bandwith or the server's specs or whatever.

Doves - where is the C server located?

C went from San Jose to Chicago. It did not lag due to lack of bots and the maps being in rotation as well as lower player count. This is a general increase in lag due to (I believe) SWBF2 being pushed back on the gamespy servers.
If appeasing an American audience; Dallas, Texas seems to be the best location.
New York is popular when trying to appease both American and European audiences.
Chicago...just always seems to fail.

For now I will disable the TeamSpeak server to save on bandwidth.
I'll be looking into it.
