Battlefield: Mercenaries or Whatever team and stuck them on SWBF:DICE... it probably wouldn't come out much sooner. There's even a possibility of taking
longer to finish, and being worse.
This is not to defend EA's general strategy in any way - they're a major player in the fractal failure that is the triple-A industry, and you're absolutely right that going for markets other than "people already playing CoD" is a good idea. (In practice they take this to mean "make predatory mobile games," but the original idea is sound.) I'm just not convinced that pulling staff from Battlefield will make that big of a difference.
