HDD having trouble.

So I have this external hard drive for about two years and it is acting up on me. I store many vids and pics in there and when I try to open the folder, which contains my vids, it says that I have to format the drive. I know my files are still there but somehow I can't open it. EYES shows me this program called Recuva but it only runs once for me. Anyone knows how to fix this problem? or somehow to restore my files (since I tried to format once)?
