what is this? I'm running a laptop all I can figure is maybe it's overheating? IDK

It just goes down to about 5 fps and stays there for at least a minute or more. Long enough that I give up and shut down my computer.
It happens out of no where too. Like everything will be running fine then BAM it slows way down.
