Samonuh....ahh forget it...it's a total waste of time debating with you. You've yet to come out of your cave. 98% of your posts are wacked-out anyway. Don't like what I say?...Tough!
And don't confuse 'race' (Middle Easterners) with 'religion' (Muslim Extremist..a cult). Their Koran allows and encourages the butchering of non-believers of Islam you ignorant infidel.

So does the Bible.

Just two more points I want to make here:

1. While I think maybe some of the opposition about this mosque really is about 911 and the WTC site, there are controversies and protests going on all around the country concerning Muslim community centers and mosques, including elsewhere in New York, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and California. Bigots are holding Quran burning ceremonies, bringing dogs and pigs to Mosques, making racist signs comparing all Muslims to terrorists, etc. So, I think even those who are not bigots and just view the WTC (and surrounding blocks I guess) as hallowed ground are playing right into the hands of racists and bigots.

2. Feisal Abdul Rauf is a very moderate Muslim who has worked with the State Department for years doing outreach all over the world to convince Muslims that the US isn't a such a hate filled and bigoted place - which I believe is getting to be a harder and harder sell all the time. In fact, he's going on another State Department trip very soon: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 54_pf.html

I wish him well. I regret firing both barrels like I did on my earlier posts, as Mandalore felt compelled to make a point On them, and Samonuh 'graciously' (thank you :)) made a very valid counter point. It's a hot-button topic for me having witnessed so much with my Navy service and now in government investigations over the past 25 years...you know... my oath to 'Support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foriegn and DOMESTIC'...that along with the Citizens. I'm just very protective of our country and our allies.
I will conceed that I am ignorant of the Aman in NY, but heard a few snipits about him that were positive on the news. I hope he's the real deal and polices' his Mosque thoroughly whether or not this building project comes to fruition. I still have to 'agree to disagree' that this is a good idea. We even lost 'one of our own' when one of the buildings collapsed as he was trying to get people to evacuate. His name, pic and story are on our 'Martyrs wall' at the Academy. Way too many loved ones killed down there. Those horrible memories and wounds won't heal anytime soon.

I understand your pain, WD-40. But on the other hand, I don't like holding any groups accountable for the actions of a few specific people.
And I did retract my post. :)

I guess one more thing, this guy actually suffered eye burns from the toxic dust when he was there handing out water to rescue workers on 911.

Guys, this is where bigotry and ignorance come together. Lumping all muslims together, assuming they are outsiders and not Americans, etc.

Tell me, is this community center (15 floors, one small mosque) which is not at the WTC site and doesn't even have a view of the site - a sunni mosque or a shia mosque? Trick question, because it's neither, and Feisal Abdul Rauf is a Sufi - which is about the opposite of radical Islam.

He's a terrorist for saying US policy contributed to 911? I guess I'm a terrorist too, because it's plainly obvious that 911 was backlash for the US organizing, training, and arming Islamic extremists to fight in Afghanistan and Yugoslavia, who then turned against us with Bin Laden as their leader once we opened permanent military bases in Saudi Arabia.

You're upset about a muslim community center, how would you feel if Saudi Arabia opened military bases in the US?

I wish this forum had a like functionl, that way I wouldnt have to quote posts, anywho... I think this posts sums up my feelings.
