Screen Recorder

Does anyone have a screen(desktop) record program? I need to record while playing without Xfire (that thing lags my game). Much appreciated!

haven't tried it with SWBFII, but FRAPS is a program that is pretty low resource hungry and does a good job of capturing in-game video.

If you are lazy (like me) you can even just drag-n-drop the captured video files and put them into the xfire video capture directory.... and then just tell xfire to upload them. Xfire will do the rendering/compression and upload them AND host them..... Kinda slick way to do it fast-n-easy.

I got fraps through torrent.....don't have the link handy, but I"ll see if I can find it.

Here's the link

(I retreived this from a post in another forum (bloodrave.com)..... haven't re-used/checked that link in quite some time ..... and can't check it from work right now)....

FRAPs is terrible in the free version. Go with growler guncam, it's a truly spectacular free recorder

I'd be interested in an explanation....

Terrible in what way? Lack of features? Or is more resource hungry / impacts game-play & frame-rate more? Or something else?

I'm not expecting a thesis full of technical details, but I am curious what you base your comment on....

The reason I'm curious is that I was under the impression that FRAPS "selling point" is that it is a minimalist design that has a very minor impact on system performance. So when you are in-game and recording you don't notice too much reduced frame-rate and lag-like issues. Xfire video, on the other hand, can significantly drop my frame-rate. Haven't used "growler guncam" but from my 2 second inspection of it's website...it sounds like it might be "better" because it is more feature rich. I'm guessing here, but feature-rich probably == resource hungry == bigger frame-rate/lag impact.

My plan is to use a resource-conservative capture tool and use my more full-featured Adoble Premiere (elements I think) for any editing chores....

But I am certainly interested to know if growler guncam (or another) is a better (more efficient) CAPTURE tool....

Advantages of Growler over FRAPs
1. Much less resource hungry
2. Higher quality vids (in my experience and just looking at the vids taken with Fraps)
3. No time limit on recording
