So 61 people were arrested for this yesterday.
Some Muslim women in France who want to show their devotion to god can no longer do so.
Of course this is after the banning of head scarves, which of course in no way has any impact on security.

I would think Americans would be more understanding about the rights of a minority not being infringed by the majority. Seems there's something in our history about that.

Gawd, I hate talking about religions. It's such a heated polarizing subject. But Matt, although I understand the 'basis' of your arguement, you've totally ignored the reason why France voted for it in the first place...and it wasn't for the pure pleasure of 'sticking it' to them or screwing them over....It's Security, plain and simple. I' explained the 'why' on an earlier post. It's easy for a small Middle Eastern man to pretend to be a Muslim woman in that costume. And it has happened more than once. They don't HAVE to live in France if they so choose. The French own the real-estate, so they have every right to protect it how they choose or vote.
I also disagree with you about their motivation being 'wanting to show their devotion to God'. They wear them because it's a LAW in their religion, but especially because their Hubbys or Fathers MAKE them wear them. I know, if they had a CHOICE, they'd not wear the head covers, just so they can show the world just how absolutely stunningly beautiful Middle-Eastern women truly are! How do I know? Because I've seen countless drop-dead gorgeous Middle-Eastern Women in various locations of the Middle East where the LAW is a bit more relaxed, especially in the Western-Friendly Islamc Nations...and they are beautiful!

WD you're generalizing and showing some prejudice to boot.

The women arrested in France yesterday said exactly why they wear the veil, because they want to.

Also, where did you get that this is about security? The French government doesn't claim it's about security.

Actually, it's optional for them to wear it.

Anyway, I'm not going to post in this thread anymore because I'm reading horrible generalization and prejudice

Maybe someday soon, it will be revealed as just that. Look, I really don't care if they wear them or not, provided there's no threat. Perhaps these particular women WANT to wear them...but perhaps just maybe, they HAVE to say it, because their Husbands/Fathers are watching and know if they say otherwise, it's bad news when they get home. You don't know for sure, and nor do I. But what I DO know, is that there are multiple Muslim Countries which relax that Law, and the women choose not to wear them. Is that showing any less devotion to God? I think not. I guess my 'personal' opinions and observations of what I have seen with my own 2 eyes around the world make me unknowing, predjudiced and over-generalizing.

I have concluded that it's better NEVER to post here if your viewpoint(s) don't align perfectly with everything certain others agree with. I hate being labeled for a viewpoint. So stop putting these dang polarizing threads up, if you DON'T want to hear an opposing view, and simply debate the dam subject without name-calling! Get off your soap-boxes!

I thought my very first post in this thread explained why the "security reasons" for the ban were flawed.

And if Muslim women really would rather not wear those silly things, but their manly dominators force them to, France is a secular badass country. They could just be like "Hey France, my [female dog] Islamic husband/dad is making me wear this stupid [m'kay] cloth, I don't wanna, halp!" and I'm pretty sure it'd work.

I'm getting quite tempted to just start being a more aggressive Atheist and say that all forms of religious expression should be equally suppressed. Trying to support followers of a view that I think is ridiculous and flawed tiring me out.

I woulda thought being an Atheist would be alot less stressful regarding a subject like this...I.E. You wouldn't care about it. But I know...it's about free expression...which I am all for! But if there is a reason outside of 'security' that they do this, then I will conceed, it is wrong to do. Perhaps France will give us every detail as to the 'why' behind the scenes someday. That's all I have to say.

Matt, you raised the topic. Do not call someone prejudiced just because they do not share your left leaning view of the world and how it should be run. Being free to offer different ideas and views, that is a very good thing. Do not stand there and call them names. Your hypocrisy is starting to show.
