Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the United States. Period. As long as they are they will be a big target to people who think that abortion is murder. If the organization receives Federal Funding those people will seek to cut off funding for an organization that does abortions, REGARDLESS of ANY other good that they do.

ACLU fanatics say the same thing when the Federal Government spends money on Faith-Based programs and ideas. Intelligent Design is a perfectly sound Scientific theory that can't be taught in public schools

Is it so detrimental to teach that it's possible all the laws of the universe are so complicated and so incredibly precise because a higher power set them up that way?

Don't we want a public institution to teach kids the fundamentals of being a viable reproductive member of our society if their parents abdicate the responsibility?

I'm an Ayn Rand conservative. I'm a Christian and a true believer. I'm also pragmatic. Planned Parenthood is the best it can be. Maybe you don't want it to perform abortions, but, they do a lot of good work that you want them to do. If you will excuse the metaphor, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Don't reduce their funding, INCREASE their funding for NON-abortion programs through the charitable organizations you support (who are now spending that money on lobbying Congress to CUT Planned Parenthoods Federal Funding)

Sorry to the conservatives here, I just don't have the time to show you the facts behind all of your baseless and outlandish statements.
Burzerker, I'm willing to do one or two - pick your favorite two liberal campaigns that have proven false and provide some evidence for why you think so, and I'll engage. My vote would be CFC's and BP spill, but I'd do any two you want.

Dread - intelligent design is not science by a long shot. I'm not opposed to giving it the attention it deserves as part of religious popular culture, but it's nowhere near science. Science does not invoke supernatural explanations, that's what makes it science.

Duel - There was just a poll showing that even a majority of self defined conservatives support medicare and medicaid - so I think you're a bit of an outlier in terms of what you think the role of government should be. I actually respect your opinion on that though I disagree. Your statement about Sanger is a popular myth - Sanger was no racist and expressed no hate for anyone. She believed the popular eugenics of the time which led to some statements that seem ridiculous today, but were made by lots of intelligent and influential people. Third, unfortunately taxes will be used for all kinds of things people disagree with. The Iraq war killed at least 100,000 civilians - I didn't want any of my money spent on that - but I don't get to pick and choose where my tax money goes.

Tis true, that you cannot pick and choose government programs that you like to fund. But even by your own numbers, 330,000 abortions were performed in 2009? And if that is their average, they are ending the life of 3 times the number of civilians lost in Iraq (100,000), every year. I would really hate to think about the total numbers, all that potential life lost. You cry for civilians that were caught in the crossfire in a war, but do not seem to give a damn about millions of innocent lives that have no chance to be potential artists, doctors, scientists, ballerinas, comedians, song writers, inventors, etc. If you do not see the hypocrisy, no amount of arguing will change your mind.

As for Sanger, that is no myth. She was very sure of her beliefs, so much so, she wrote books, editorials, and speeches. In her own words. She was a racist. Not a myth. She and her fellow "intellectual" contemporaries targeted "undesirables" for sterilization, to weed out the weaker links in the chain of society. Do yourself a favor, look her up. You would not believe the crap she and the other "intellectuals" proposed.

Matt, I understand completely, I don't have time to show you the facts behind all your baseless and outlandish, hypocritical, fear mongering, hate based statements either. We should just call this a truce.

I'm no Sanger historian, but I do know that she was most definitely not a racist.
