My computer goes spazzy when i join multiplayer

Its Lag. You probably have a bad connection or you live a long way away from servers.

When you start the game, go to options, then video settings.
Make sure the resolution is set low, turn down the details on things like water, shadows, etc.

Sometimes that can help. Also make sure your computer is not running any other programs which take up computer power or network bandwidth.
