I have random NAT

Postby BurzaP » Wed May 04, 2011 5:43 pm

Hey Guyz,
I've read threads about NAT in TDU2 sections but there wasn't anyone who could help me.[this NAT thing happens to me also in MW2]
I have radio internet from one dude who "sends" internet to different houses in my village. (I'm not much into this thing so sorry for not professional words). Where is the problem.
Every time I launch the game I have different NAT. It is either:

Open:FullCone
Moderate: PortRestrictedCone
Strict:Symmetric

What should I do or what should I tell the man who sends me internet to do to fix it to be greeen?
I expect answers won't be kidding. And it is annoyinh when I cannot join someones party or someone cannt join me so please, help me.
Thanks, regards,
B

PS: I found also desciptrions of those NATs, if it will help you to help me:

Symmetric
A symmetric NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port, to a specific destination IP address and port, are mapped to the same external IP address and port. If the same host sends a packet with the same source address and port, but to a different destination, a different mapping is used. Furthermore, only the external host that receives a packet can send a UDP packet back to the internal host.

PortRestrictedCone
A port restricted cone NAT is like a restricted cone NAT, but the restriction includes port numbers. Specifically, an external host can send a packet, with source IP address X and source port P, to the internal host only if the internal host had previously sent a packet to IP address X and port P.

FullCone
A full cone NAT is one where all requests from the same internal IP address and port are mapped to the same external IP address and port. Furthermore, any external host can send a packet to the internal host, by sending a packet to the mapped external address.

I going to make an two assumptions to better understand your issue. First I would guess English is not your first language. Second is that you have a standard Internet firewall/sharing device connected to your computer. In most cases these devices use PAT (port address translation) and not NAT (Network Address Translation). In the industry we call them the same but in reality they are not. In PAT implementations your outbound port, return port, internal IP, and destination IP are used to build a tunnel between your internal computer and the external computer. The destination computer has no idea the device is behind a PAT (firewall/inet sharing device) as all the packets appear to come from the PAT device. Regardless for the majority of Internet communications this stuff shouldn't matter. Is there a specific issue you are having?

Firstly, yes, I'm Pole, my English is bad so if you can see any mistakes you can tell me what they are.
Secondly, rather not, but I will ask this question to my operator.
Why do I want it to be Open:FullCone?
It allows me to join other friends' sessions, they can join me, I can use a mic in game and players can hear me, I can hear them. If it is Moderate: PortRestrictedCone or
Strict:Symmetric it disables these functions to some border. The point is, this issue is random.
I would be glad if you tell me what should I ask the man who delivers me internet and then I will write there answers.
Thanks for help ;)

No, I'm a user. When I launch the game I see this NAT info and everyone who has this game sees this too but I haven't met anyone who would have the same problem as me.

Unless you are hosting a game Symmetric is preferable. Do you have a router or is your PC directly connected to the Internet? If you have a router how old is it? When I launch my game it doesn't ask me anything about NAT. I have a gut feeling you or your ISP is running a older NAT/PAT system. The newer NAT/PAT solutions are dynamic enough to deal with these issues.
