New computer, bigger lag?

Postby Duel of Fates » Sun May 22, 2011 9:22 pm

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has had this occur to them? I recently got a new computer with all the bells and whistles, much faster and more memory than my seven year old Dell. But for some reason, when I play hero assault or JBA, I am getting huge lag, and my ping is considerably higher. My connection and cable service is unchanged.

It is hard to believe that a seven year old computer with crap graphics and memory had much better ping then my new one. what is the deal?

Upgrade all your Curent driver's especially Grafic card and interernet card.
Make sure your router is fine, even reset your internet

The new machine is using an onboard network interface, I would assume. Disable it and buy a $20 card.

A new computer will include Win 7? By default a number of services are installed and configured, including IPv6, QOS and Windows Firewall. Disabling these services will GREATLY improve your gaming performance.

What your computer is telling you is stop playing that outdated, basement rat game and started playing some real games like Bad Company 2 or at least Modern Warfare Black Ops. Your computer wants to utilize its full power and playing swbf2 just bores it to death.

Well jamwin is partly right.
Although SWBF2 works, it still isn't as compatible with win7 as newer games, as it's engine was designed for WinXP

It runs fine for me in Windows 7, granted I use steam to load the program. For lag issues it is usually related to IP6, QoS, Windows Firewall, Anti-Virus software. Disable everything and try connecting. If you are still having issues try updating your NIC driver(s).

Hey Guys, thanx for the info. Got my ping back into the 80's with acceptable lag. Crazy game.

Thanx again all.

Glad you got it back to normal. It's hard to imagine that the ping/lag issue would really be a result of your new computer, Win7, or even an integrated NIC card. More likely it is an issue with your router (unplugging it for a full minute can sometimes help), cable-modem or DSL box (again, unplug for a full minute), or just a temporary internet issue. In the unlikely event that it *IS* related to your computer having too many processes running and slowing it down, there is some software that I have and use sometimes which makes shutting down most of the unnecessary processes really easy. It is called Game Optimizer ...or something like that. I need to look at my home PC to get the correct name and download location. But basically, you can click a button to put it into "gaming mode" and it shuts down lots of unnecessary stuff. Then you click another button to restore it to normal.

Very fun game, best teamwork related game I've played. With that said, we've all but moved on from that one. If your new PC can handle it, recommend Bad Company 2! Thats where jammy, me, and several others are these days....

Yeah happened to me. I was gone for about half a year as my old dell broke. Got a new computer but when I tried playing the game again, my ping had risen considerably to over 200 on JBA and lag appears. This was not a problem with my old computer and I'm still using the same wired internet connection.
I use intel I5 2300m with a gtx 460 video card which is capable of playing high demand games such a Crysis with no lag. With SWBF2, still trying to figure out how to reduce my ping and lag...

Oh also, anyone running windows 7 may already be aware of the problem that the game doesn't support it. You can load up the game but can't start playing without it crashing back to your desktop. I found out the problem was the game has sound issues if your computer uses integrated audio. All you have to do is enable the sound mixer and you can play it perfectly fine using windows 7.
