Here's a good debatable topic:
AHEM…. OIL!

Goddamn Saudis keep jacking the oil prices over here. We were at close to 4 dollars per gallon. A big uproar ensued, the prices (via OPEC) went down a bit. Stabilized around 3.50 to 3.60 per gallon. Dropped approx 3.30 per gallon after President Obama released some oil reserves. Now the Goddamn rag-heads in Saudi Arabia want to reduce production in order to jack the prices even higher than before once the released reserves are gone. Jackoffs.

I say screw them, and start drilling in Alaska. The Arabs barely pay the equivalent of one dollar per gallon because they produce all they need for themselves. Why not us too?!

We buy their stupid oil, pay their stupid high prices (and deliberately don't drill in Alaska) in order to make them 'happy'…and 'rich'. Camel jockeys

In return, we get the privilege of military air bases there. I hate politics. The U.S. so so dam cash poor, we need to make our own oil, and start putting MONEY back into the pockets of Americans…and other allies…want some oil?

Sure we can survive without oil, but he costs double. Exxon is all about buying up alternative energy sources then declaring they don't work.

Your preaching to the choir WD. We could create jobs, rebuild our economy, cut our deficit, and tell the Saudi's to go [m'kay] themselves. But our current administration seems hellbent on cutting America off at the knees when it comes to oil, coal, and natural gas.

Would it be naive to suggest that since oil will be even more sought-after in the future, the American government is holding onto their own reserves in order to give itself another method of gaining leverage over importing countries in decades to come?

Anyone who thinks drilling in Alaska for oil will solve any problems clearly does not understand economics. First off, to set up the infrastructure for the retrieval and transfer of the raw product is in itself a huge use of petroleum products. I do not know what the net gain would be (if any) in that endeavor so I will not pretend to say "lululululu omg we luze oilz here guyz!!11." I'm not sure what concessions the Canadians would want for having our pipe go through quite a bit of their territory. If they did not allow a pipe to transfer the petroleum, we would be stuck shipping it which would contribute to the cost, time, and general inefficiency of the entire deal.
Secondly, as Corpse said, because this jagaloon race of ours still hasn't figured out "renewable energy" (And no, I'm not talking about that Ethanol bull [poo]) our consumption of oil has increased and will continue to increase for the for see able future even though we've probably hit peak oil and thus the US is strategically keeping its non-renewable sources of energy under strict control.

Eight year olds don't learn anything vaguely important other than perhaps math, and they sure as hell don't learn about politics. And no, you are not somehow better or smarter than other eight year olds because you play Star Wars, and no, you are not smarter than me. Also, you have permission to call me a retard when you learn your [m'kay] tenses.
