Losing connection

Postby MATTHEW'S_DAD » Sat Jul 02, 2011 8:20 pm

Ok, I need some help. I think our router might be dying. I'm losing connection constantly, but only for a moment. Long enough to be disconnected from the game but not long enough to notice if I'm just surfing the web. It's not the computer, because all three computers are being affected. I turned off the router and unplugged it and then hooked it back up, but it seems to keep doing it. I have bellsouth dsl and an old Westell wireless router if that helps. A lot of you know that I don't know [poo] about this stuff. :wheelchair:

You're definitely due for an upgrade either way man.
Get yourself a nice new Cisco e1000 or better and you'll be psyched.
If your problem persists you could replace your nic inexpensively.
You might also contact your provider and ask them if they see you winking out- could be your modem too.

westell is crud  , and I am not a big fan of DSL when it comes to stability. Any router in the 60+ range should be OK.

This happened to me and I found out that the plug was cracked and wires were sticking out of it. I doubt this happened to you, though.

I'm going to attempt a hard reset today and if that doesn't work I'll be talking to AT&T about sending me a new modem/router. I had them look to see if I was "winking out" and of course they didn't see anything. I'm sure they never do. I have to ask, and I wouldn't dare ask if you were British, but what is my "nic"?

I've been using my current router for a good eight years, it has one antenna broken off, and somehow it still works awesomely, usually I get somewhere around 40-100 (at the absolute worst) ping. Linksys is the [poo].

Really? I have a Linksys router and my connection seems to drop about three times a day. But it could aso be the fact I play on a laptop. :whistling:

About a month ago I bought an Asus Black Diamond router and have been extremely happy with it. I can stream four HD signals at the same time, while spectating SWBF2 with 60 ping.

NIC = Network Interface Card - like the one in your computer. They sell gaming NIC's and I've heard they really do improve ping but I've never used one.

I'd go to http://www.pingtest.net and see what kind of jitter you're getting.
