Insert System disc?

Last Night, while playing swbf2 on the old Vista, the game froze. This happens on a fairly regular basis so naturally I thought nothing of it. After trying Ctrl+Alt+Del a couple of times, I received the dreaded blue screen of death.

Now this does not usually happen, so I began to get worried it might be something more serious, but I rebooted and everything was fine. I managed to get back onto the game fine, no hitches whatsoever.

So this morning, while trying to start up the computer, it wouldn't do it and I received the message "Insert system disc". I've retried starting it but it just keeps coming up with the same message every time, so I've had to resort to writing this from my phone.

Depending on how long it takes to fix/get a new computer, it could be a long, long time before I get back onto swbf2. Any help regarding a solution to this problem, or of any new computers you'd recommend would be much appreciated.

That sucks. I hate to see if when players that are fun to hang out with have to take a break.

Before doing anything as drastic as buying a new computer, I'd advise you to contact your computer's manufacturer and see if they offer any support for the issue you're experiencing.

Dude, don't get a goddamn new computer, just reformat your hard drive. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass, but if your OS is bricked anyway... It'll save you a good bit of cash.

Sounds more like the system can't find your hard drive at all. You may need to replace it.

Thanks for the feedback, formatting definately looks the best route. I'm going to try and get a replacement master CD from the manufacturers, the original must have come with the package but I can't find it anywhere.

If it's a laptop most have a recovery partition you can access by repeatedly pressing F10 while it boots.

What I do in cases like this is take out the hard drive, connect it to another computer and run a full check disk to see if there are bad sectors or data.

Managed to fix it earlier today. The problem wasn't what I thought it was (thank god), turned out to be something much less serious which is a relief because as Narg said, spending cash on a new computer would've been really, really stupid.

If you cannot get into Windows then as Matt indicates there is typically a hidden partition containing the system and at that point you can press a combination of keys F11 etc to boot into into the recovery mode. You need to find-out your PC model and check the internet to see if it did come with a recovery partition.

To access restore take a look at the following url:

I recommend that you select a restore point perhaps a couple a week or more ago and let the system restore from that point. Then try going back into SWBF2. Give it a whirl and hopefully it should resolve the issue.

BSOD in Vista isn't as common as it was in XP, and it usually indicates a driver or hardware error. Glad you got it figured out.
