Let's settle this.
In the book "I Am Legend" states that an epidemic occurs that resembles vampirism. True vampires are those that are reanimated by the disease.
In the movie "I Am Legend" on the other hand, refers to the infected as predatory, cannibalistic beings that kill the non-infected.

Conclusion:
Neither the book, nor the movie indicate that they were zombies.
Book says they are vampires.
Movie indicates they are aggressive beings.

Now back to the original topic!
