Second point: I don't smoke for my own reasons, but this is clearly an area where people have the freedom to do what they want with their money, time, and bodies. Just because someone makes choices you don't approve of doesn't give you free reign to insult their intelligence or motivations. If you don't want to smoke, keep it to yourself and stay away from smokers. If you have a friend or family member who you genuinely care about, go talk to them with love. However I find it hard to believe that wolfi has any motivation to reprimand pan other than that it makes him feel (and to himself) feel superior to non-smokers. We're such a nation of meddlers. Jeez...

My mom decided to both smoke and drink while I was in the womb. I would've asked her to stop, but unfortunately I was getting really really high off this sick ass umbilical cord [poo] so I couldn't figure out how to use a megaphone. As a result, my childhood was pretty [poo] until I finally started getting some medicine. Then it was awwwwwwwwwriiiiiiiiiiight.

Feel free to consider me an [derriere orifice]. I'm call people idiots when they smoke because they are wasting their potential in life. They could do so much, yet they decide to harm their bodies. I feel the same way about all drugs (with the exclusion of cannabis since it is generally harmless but that's a discussion for another topic). If you do Meth, Heroin, Cocaine, Crack, or any other hard drug like that, you're an idiot.

Yes, it is my way or the highway. There is no middle ground. I don't care if you had a bad marriage. I don't care if you lost your job. You are the one choosing to smoke. Here I am, a young adult who has had a long, hard life. I had a tumor on my spine when I was born. They didn't find it until I was five. They had to cut three vertebrae in half to cut it out of me. I suffer to this day, complications from what the tumor did to me. I can not remember a day in my entire life I wasn't in pain. My mom, was hit by an SUV as a pedestrian when I was eight. She's been suffering since, and to this very day. There are many times that other people would have killed themselves, but my mom and I have not.

I have never once considered smoking, despite being given the chance several times. Why? Because there are better, healthier ways of dealing with stress. Ride a bike. Read a book. Write a book. Play video games. Walk your dog. Play with your dog. Take a drive around town. Sketch in a notepad. Paint something, anything. Take photographs. Make small wood carvings. Make jewelry. Take a bath/shower. Clean the house. Sweep the driveway. Talk with friends. Make a collage. Go and do volunteer community service. Shovel random people's driveways for free.

These are just a few of the things I can think of that I've done to relieve stress.

I honestly do respect that you, Panama, don't subjugate people to second hand smoke. It doesn't matter, however, if you're body can handle smoking better than others. They do contain poisons that will harm you regardless of how bad or how well your body copes with it. I don't think people that drink are stupid, because unless you are an alcoholic, you are not harming your body. I only think people who willingly harm their bodies are stupid, it's wasting their potential.

Panama, would you want your kids smoking? Would anyone want their kids smoking? If you smoke, it setting a terrible example.

If anyone, Richdog, or whomever, wants to think less of me because I think smokers are idiots? Fine. Richdog, you're actually being slightly hypocritical. You talk about freedom, then tell me I don't have the freedom to speak as I want. I know this is the Internet, but I live in America. We have this thing here called free speech. If I want to call someone an idiot, I will. I don't do it because I feel superior to the person(not very easy for me to do with my low self esteem), I do it because I see someone wasting their life which is idiotic. Perhaps that is a better way of stating it.

Panama, you're not an idiot. You're just doing something very idiotic. I suppose there is a difference and I should make that clear.

Someone mentioned a pipe? Well it depends on what you smoke. If you smoke crack, well then you're a [m'kay] idiot. No exceptions. If it is just tobacco, it isn't too harmful. I mainly hate cigarettes since they are literally loaded with poison. Cigars are better, so are pipes.

Peace.

I agree with wulf. Smoking is an idiotic thing to do. For those of you who take it outside just REMEBER it's harmful people outside too. My grandfather smoked everyday of his life while my grandmother never touched them. She has lung cancer though anyway. It's harmful to more then just the smokers

On TOP of my husband's parents both passing away from LUNG CANCER I have the insult of my mom continuing to smoke. My mom smoking just ticks me off because EVERY time I come home from being down there, despite having a separate living area (my parents have a mobile home I stay in down there) I have to wash EVERY piece of clothing I take down there. Also, when I was EIGHT YEARS OLD I got pneumonia to the point of almost dying because my lungs weren't able to heal because of the poisons that were in my air.

My grandma smoked as well, but I'll always be proud of the way that she quit. She had cancer removed from her internal organs and she was in the hospital for quite a while, so she couldn't smoke at all for over a week, and when she came home she had NO CRAVINGS what-so-ever. So she stayed quit till the day she died.

At times I have to take two extra medications while I'm at my mom's. Albuterol and Pseudophedrine. Both are prescription drugs in my state. I think smoking is [poo], I think smoking parents are selfish because somewhere down the line someone ALWAYS GETS HURT because of it. It may be because of a death, secondary health problems, or having to go without so that your parent can get their "death sticks."

Nite, my daughter also gets pneumonia from people that smoke outside and bringing the chemical in on their clothing. Those chemicals stay on the clothing, and attach themselves to everything in the home. When I pick up the kids from there, they need a good showering and clothes washed. (this smoking is done at my ex-in-laws)

If you believe you are in danger from the clothing people wear when they smoke outside.... please, get a grip.
Smoking is not good for your health, this is undisputed. Being condescending or rude to people who choose to smoke is uncalled for. If you don't like living in the same house as someone who smokes then move out, don't stay with them, whatever. To make accusations of poison chemicals coming out of clothes is as absurd as saying their breath hurts you. Get a grip; you encounter worse pollution sitting in traffic than you do from someone smoking a cigarette nearby.

Exactly Haas, while cigarettes do have harmful ingredients, so does many things that most of you eat and breathe in daily. How many of you drink diet beverages? Are you aware that the artificial sweetners(aspertene) in them are harmful for your health? How about drinking water? Are most of you aware of the Flouride placed in water is harmful to you? Look at a rat poison....whats the main ingredient? Flouride. How about all the hormones in meats?....how about the pesticides in fruits and vegetables? Geneticly modified foods that we all eat everyday without stopping to think what you're putting in your bodies. There is a hypocracy among all of us...there is no one on these forums that doesn't put their health at risk everyday of their lifes. Would you call me an "idiot" if I take my prescribed medicine that has worst side effects than the actual illness?

But smoking is not prescribed or NESSECARY. It's completely recreational. Along with that, second hand smoke kills too. Telling someone to move out or get a grip is as rude as calling someone an idiot. It shows a selfish uncaring attitude towards people around you. Some people are minors who can't legally leave home some are young children who don't know any better. Sure there are chemicals in other things such as water and food. But those items are needed to live.

Answer me this. What benefit does smoking provide? It's harmful to the user and it's harmful to those around the user. What good thing is produced by cigarettes. 11 Panama you mentioned taking medication that has harmful side effects. But they have a benefit. Tell me please what's the pro of smoking.
