Dwarf Actors...are upset

I haven't seen the movie, but I imagine agility may come into play- could be a legit reason for searching outside the real dwarf community.

Honestly there wasn't much that real dwarf actors could have done. The dwarfs in the movie used traps and the ability to be easily consealed to move around and capture people. And they always fought in teams of two or more against an opponent or used the element of surprise to take down multiple opponents. Not a bad assumption though Haas.

I can see why a lot of you find all this very humorous, the whole 100 midget march had me chuckling but four pages worth is enough. It would be nice if some reverence was shown, this isn't some guy who called the police because someone stole his weed. These people are pissed because they lost work to a computer and they're prepared to fight for jobs, something few people seem to want these days. I respect them for what they're doing, I respect that they want to work. I don't expect many of you here to feel ashamed or sorry for what you said, it's the Internet right? But you should be. I see where your coming from. But there is little we agree on. (Couldn't help it ) your asking us to show reverence about a protest people are having because they didn't get selected or used in a movie that was made. This isn't a civil rights movement, or a protest against discrimination. What precedence is set when anyone can turn rejection into a public outcry. People love to create problems where none exist for the simple goal of gaining attention. Next thing you know PETA is going to boycott Mario games because of the raccoon suit. Oh wait that already happened. I laugh at this issue because it is laughable. No one was discriminated against for being small. The directors just had other actors they wanted to use.

Personally, maybe the studios 'shortchanged' them, because they acted too much like midgets, which was a 'little' too predictable for the audience. This is no 'small' er when considering these 'minute' details, the bottom line is, the studios want believable, talented actors...not some group of 'minor' league wannabes with a 'limited and tiny' amount of dialogue experience. Look at kenny baker...his most famous part was R2D2. We not only didn't 'see' him, we didn't even 'hear' him. He got the part because his little ass could fit inside the metal cylinder. Today's electronics wouldn't even afford him a part as R2 because it would be fully automated. Outside of the little Jawas and Endor mini-bears (whatever the heck they were called), the 2 movies that come to mind for midgets and dwarfs are 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' (with Gene Wilder...that one had a female Dwarf in it), and 'Time Bandits' (which had Kenny Baker...good movie)..of course there was the old 'Wizard of Oz' which had an assload of them in it. Anyway, can any of you think of other 'Notable Midget Movie Mentions'?

10. Leprechaun-The scariest midget/little person I’ve ever seen but definitely a funny dude. This green guy gave people a scare while crackin his funny little Irish jokes. Don’t steal this little guys pot of gold, you’ll be in for some torcher. eeek!

9. Willow- The little people in this movie were called pecks, short for pecker maybe hmmm. Willow is a midget sorcerer who fights off dragons, rabid mutant dogs, trolls, and evil witches. So basically he’s one bad ass midget.

8. Anything with Danny DeVito- Had to put this in because he is such a tiny person that he has to be considered a little person. You got to admit he made a one hell of a penguin because he’s such a small man.

7. Friday- You know that guy who screws with that other guys wife, yeah a midget! Can’t feel like a real man after that happens to you.

6. Happy Gilmore- Every time Happy thought of his happy place he thought of a midget riding an imaginary pony. Now that is some funny stuff!

5. Bad Santa- Santa has the best sidekicks, Elves! Just so happens to be that Billy Bob Thornton’s Elf is a African American little person and one funny little person with an attitude. This elf would rather make kids cry than make them toys.

4. Elf- Will Ferrell gets into a fight with a midget! That’s what he gets for calling the guy an angry elf.

3. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- Ooompa lumpa dupity dee! Oompa Lumpa’s steal the show in the original Wonka chocolate factory. Very creepy sensation when watching these guys though.

2. Wizard of Oz- Now Wizard of Oz wins the award for the most little people ever in a movie. Man that’s a lot of midgets! Especially if you count the flying monkeys, sort of like a midget with wings and a tail. Also creepy.

And finally, the number one midget/little person movie of all time……..

1. Austin Powers- Mini Me will go down as one of the most infamous little persons to ever star in a film. So congrats Mini Me on being number one on the MovieGuys “Top Ten Movies of all time with Midgets/Little People.” You little tripod you!

I think it's ridiculous for them to start protesting against the movie because there was no "little people" in them. It was the decision that the filmakers have a right to make. It was their money and their movie. I agree with 40 (I think it was 40), it seems like a publicity stunt (get it?..stunt). They could start a small union, a union that could grow...and in a short time, pay big dividends. I bet it's hard for both parties to see eye to eye on this issue, and even harder to sit down together face to face.

I have to agree with this.

I don't think a 'march' really accomplishes much beyond a cry for attention and publicity (not that it's necessarily detrimental to do so, given human nature). And as Col. Homestar accurately points out, there is no evidence of discrimination. Had there been, there could be more cause for this, but there is not. However, that does not mean we should not respect these actors for standing up for their beliefs and collectively fighting for a goal.

I do think the majority of the comments made in this thread are rather shameful, and make us look very shallow. Would you say such things to their faces? Most likely not, which therefore only implies cowardice. You'll only make such comments behind the safety of Internet anonymity, which, in my eyes, makes these actors the 'bigger people' here.

To my defense, these were just jokes, there's a right time and a wrong time to tell them. This was the right time. I'm sorry if I don't "feel for them"..but as I stated before....the filmakers used their money and it was their decision to use or not use "little people". The "protesters" are way out of bounds here, they can't and shouldn't force anyone to use them because the story has "dwarfs". Welcome to the 21st century...where real actors are not always needed thanks to computers. Also, what's so cowardly about jokes? I would tell them (little people) the same jokes if they would want to hear them. I'm not afraid of them.
