What is gun control? Why is there gun control and what happened to the 2nd amendment and our understanding of it?
Gun control is the passing and enforcing of any laws pertaining to the restriction of gun possession and gun ownership…right? Well, in my view we have the laws on the books that are sufficient and extremely under enforced (which is fine with me because I only agree with one of them).
#1 – Felons can NOT own a handgun. If this were enforced 100%, gun crime would plummet. I realize that 100% enforcement is unattainable but it certainly gives law enforcement a tool to use when gathering up charges. Unfortunately the resources are just not there to follow up on this excellent law that punishes the law breaker instead of the law abider. We would have to triple our jail space to hold every gang member carrying.
Now beyond this it gets crazy….
You have the National Firearms Act from 1934 where machine guns, sawed off shotguns, etc are defined for taxation purposes. The government in my opinion way overstepped their bounds at this time but they did a lot of that back then. Then in 1968 they begin the banning process of the weapons defined in the 1934 law. Then of course you get the Brady bill, the assault weapons ban, etc etc. There’s just too much to list, but what it boils down to is the chipping away of the 2nd amendment with everyone of these laws that only affect the law abiding.
So why have these laws? To protect the citizens from each other and themselves? I’m sure some people believe that but let’s be honest here. A guy can go in to Home Depot and build an Oklahoma City style truck bomb for less than half of what that clown in Colorado spent on his weapons, ammo and bomb making materials. Crazy people will find a way. So I feel all the money and time spent in the process of legislating and enforcing these excessive and pointless laws could be better served elsewhere, ie lower taxes for those of us that have to work for a living.
The real reason for these laws (in my opinion)? To build the government to be as large as possible and to erode the freedoms of the private individual. Why? Because a private individual cannot be controlled like the many teat dwellers that keep these guys in charge and employed. We all know these guys live for power and control, it’s why they never leave Washington if they can help it.
What has happened to the 2nd amendment? It’s been violated as has the rest of the Constitution. The passing of any law controlling our right to bear arms, no
er how good it sounds and no
er if I even agree with it, it is in violation. I realize that it was written in different times, but it was written in a timeless manner and yet we continue to force our modern problems down its throat when we need to realize that that document is more timeless than we (you and I) and that we need to stay within the very basic guidelines that it sets forth. It is written to be a basic document from the citizens to the government of rights that the government cannot take away. Yet here we are today with career politicians that basically wipe their ass with it every damn day. And the oh so elite press doing their part to feed the masses the slop that they pass off as journalism to get us all worked up in one direction or the other. This goes for the left and the right.
Our understanding of the 2nd amendment as well as the rest of the Constitution is basically lost. The press, the career politicians and lobbyist have taken advantage of our ignorant society that is consumed with facebook, the latest cell phone, and who did what on teen mom. Until this ignorant society that is so consumed with such important
ers gets “woken up” the rest of us are doomed to suffer along in a paralyzed state.
I’m sure some social scientist will come on here and try and pick me apart, but it doesn’t
er. This is how it is and you either see it or you don’t.
