Modding HA

Postby Nik » Wed Oct 03, 2012 2:03 am

I was just wondering if it is even possible to mod HA, like to have more characters to play as, so that people wouldn't have to download anything but could still be able to play it? I was just thinking how Wulfi said he only plays on modded HA and wanted to know if this had ever been brought up before and whether or not this is something we could possibly try?

Anyone who actually makes server mods feel free to correct me.

- You can edit weapon and unit values on a server so that the people who join do not have to download anything. Like changing how much damage a weapon deals or how much health a unit has. I know this because I've seen it done.

- You can't add new classes, be it new heroes or whatever. Not without forcing the players to download something beforehand, which is sadly automated.

We've talked about having a server with mods, but the problem is we can't afford adding a new server. And if we could afford it, there is a likely chance it wouldn't be very popular.

I know that on PS2 there is a way to mod conquest maps where you always spawn as the hero for said map, like you can spawn as Luke and Emp on death star instead of the classes. Not sure if the same is true for PC though, never seen it tried.
Also known as Phantom.

I do say that if people want a server and have the money for it, the server could hapen.
At least that was what i did when the last 123+ server failed.

On a side note, wulf, or any other modder, would it be possible to make a mod which automatically gives the player who enters a modded server the option to automatically download and install the mod required to play?

Nope. Sadly not possible in the slightest. For one thing, if you enter a server that has a mod you don't have installed, you crash to desktop.

Only small server mods that change the existing sides can work.

There is a few things on Ps2 we can mod, and that's saying a lot because on PS2 we can't do much unless we mod both our PS2's and disks.

ANYWAYS. Here's what has been done on PS2, and I know I am missing a lot.

-Sky Arena [The top of the arena had an invisible floor]
-Sky Floors [certain sections of the map had a sky you could walk on that was as tall as the octagon]
-Lightning push or stun [Lightning stuns you or pushes you...]
-Choke Sniping [Choke can hit you across the map. Useless in a public room though]
-Modded character attacks [Like Dooku/Emperor. We modded it so that their second attack would knock you down and you couldn't block like usual]
-Mauls helicopter launch [We modded the helicopter part of it to send you flying across the other side of the map. Muuuuch further]
-Turned pull into push [regular range and power force push]
-Modified health [Gave some of the heroes extra health like Vader/Grevious/Dooku
-Mace's ground punch [We made it do a little bit of damage and also have the power to send you a foot or two and tumble you]
-Extended maps [We removed the invisible walls on Mos Eisley so that we could play outside of the boundaries. Very fun]
-Tankless maps
-Switched spawn points around

There is lots I am missing but we've actually accomplished quite a lot. Lol.

I've seen that done on PC as well, one mod I've always thought would be interesting was if you could play as any character, like if you went to hero assault and were heroes you could be any good hero, clonetrooper, rebel, and maybe even some of the animal hunt characters. Mines might certainly add a new level to Hero Assault.

If there were mines in hero assault, the amount of spawn killing would probably break the game. Wampas with some way to be impervious to force on Hero Assault would be pretty fun, though.
