If it wasn't for calculators, I wouldn't have passed math by the skin of my teeth. Some people just aren't built to do those weird things with the numbers, god.

In my HS they required 2 years in math, I took Applied Mathmatics (fractions, etc), and Algebra 1.. I wouldn't have been able to go any further...

I thought 3 years was required; didn't you have to take geometry or something to graduate?

requirements have changed since 2000 I imagine. I would have had three years but my stupid school didn't count Accounting as a math class....

Well, accounting technically isn't really math---it just heavily uses it.

If anything, I would think requirements have decreased since 2000.

Nope, they have increased... don't ask me why, but I have a conspiracy theory behind it, and that would be for another post entirely...

I remember Calculus in College. Sucked...hated it...teeth pulling would have been less painful. Gawd, I'd have been a much better student as the man I am today, if I could go back in time....so many different decisions....but that's another thread.

They've raised the requirements so that people don't just drop out when they hit 16, like many more would if they only needed two years of specific stuff like math. It's a good idea in concept, but in reality it's a huge waste of time and effort. Basically, instead of learning the baseline level of everything, everyone is learning all the specialized stuff in every single subject they take. I'm not sure if i'm coming across clearly since i'm kinda drunk and tired, but basically it's kinda like we're trying to teach a ton of stuff that people don't care about, instead of having them pick one thing they really like and learning things related to that. I mean [poo], i'm going to try and be a writer, what the hell was I going to do with pre-calculus? I could barely do geometry for [m'kay]'s sake, and here I am trying to do all this crazy math wizardry.

Basically [m'kay] math.

Narg, I could have written the same exact paragraph except when I was a senior I was planning to be an English Teacher...

seriously, [m'kay] math was my attitude. I had a military career ahead of me in which my MOS lined up with the college I wanted to go to..
