Tobacco

Postby FaiL.? » Thu Jan 10, 2013 1:01 am

I'm being employed to pick tobacco this summer, as a new job, hopefully with better advantages (Money). Can anyone here describe what the conditions are like? I tried google a while ago, no help at all

I live in the tobacco capital of the world. I can say, it's not a good time.

It's funny, I visit another forum where it's common for us to know each others names and addresses. But for some reason on here, I don't want you people (not all of you) to know anymore about me than can be helped. :ninja:

I guess the difference is that on the other forum I visit, we all have jobs and are too busy for the bs stalking and harassment that goes on here. :whistling:

If there was a way to only show some people your name, address, etc, I'd do it. Plenty of people on here I trust. Nite, Haas, MD, Panama, etc.

But there are quite a few where I'd prefer you to know as little as possible about me.

I had an opportunity to work on a Tobbaco Farm back in the 70s for a summer. I visited the farm and was shown what was expected. It was expected I'd get up before dawn, ride a tobacco seeder during hot days, and do other chores into the evening. No pay. Just a free hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner along with an appreciation of hard work. I did not appreciate hard work at the time, so I passed. Do I regret it...hard to say. Depends what you want to gain from it. What's your goals doing it? Will it help you be a better person (sure it will, but what's your mentality?...you a Farmer type?). Do they have a hot daughter?...etc.
