Alright, Here's the closest I could come to that. The data from that graph MT posted, combined with the total murder rates from here. Note that this is only an estimation - the data isn't from the same years and is only as accurate as the two sources anyway.


Another interesting fact from that list - our murder rate is worse than China, Iran, India, or Turkey.

Switzerland had negative non-gun murders? Is that an error in the graph, or are the Swiss actually wizards?

Just a bit of fiddling with Google Docs - I was interested in seeing the result too. (Also edited in a bit at the end of my last post.)

That's an error caused by the data being from two different years, yeah. The latest murder rate was only 0.7, vs. the other graph's gun murder rate of 0.8, and I didn't feel like hunting down newer sources so I left it in.

Now find a graph that shows how many people die from drunk driving accidents every year.

A figure here shows 17,941 "deaths in alcohol-related collisions" in 2006. The population in 2006 was about 300 million, so the rate per 100,000 was about 6. This is about 20% larger than the total US "intentional homicides" figure from the previous graph, though I'm not sure how much overlap there is between the two figures.

I'm not sure what this tells us other than that we should reduce both gun murders and drunk driving, though.

Thank god for the invention of infinite prisons. WIthout them, i'm not quite sure what we'd do!
