Surely you don't mean me. You must be referring to Duel. :whistling:

Ah but its against the law to drink and drive. Wait you might be onto something! People who do drink and drive are punished by having their license to drive a car taken away. So lets have a mandatory psych test for all gun owners to take. If they fail, their guns are confiscated. Think of it as a gun sobriety test.:lol:

If you want guns to be treated like cars then regulate them the way cars are. Sounds like a plan to me.

Your fire's gettin puny :whistling:

I believe you completely missed the point.

[m'kay] wrote:The way I see it, the people I don't want to be in possession of guns are the people that wouldn't kill without those guns. When people who aren't prepared to kill have a gun, that's when the gun stops being a means to an end and becomes the reason someone gets killed. Those who have the resolve to kill someone, with full knowledge of what that means both socially and mentally, often know that it's usually better not to kill, and will use it largely as an intimidation tool, only shooting to kill if the situation truly warrants it. For obvious reasons however, it's fairly impossible to actually test this in any meaningful way. I think that the screening process should be more strict, possibly putting the one who wants a gun through a battery of psychological tests. Requiring prior experience with death and violence would be a bit too much, as that would be easy to abuse in the event of a police state.

Homestar, as to your opinion that a mentally stable sane person is incapable of committing a violent act on another person, I don't believe in that at all. I'd consider myself rather sane and mentally stable, but if someone was threatening my family, had the means to do them harm, and looked as if they might actually do so, i'd kill them. Maybe that makes me seem like some internet tough guy, but it's the truth. I might be kind, I might be generous, I might be all sorts of [poo] that people like, but if it comes down to the protection of my friends and family, i'll do whatever I have to. Given that, maybe i'm not perfectly sane compared to society's standard, but in the event of some form of societal collapse i'd be looking for other people like me, rather than people who won't kill for any reason. It's not a "realistic" viewpoint, and i'm well aware that the likelihood of such a situation occurring is almost nil, but hey. Better safe than sorry.

What's funny is that despite how much of a trolling ass Narg can act like, he actually has some really smart things to say if he settles down.

Key words here are "intimidation tool." I never want to use a gun to kill someone unless I have to. However I do want a gun for intimidation purposes.

Overkill, you say, Homestar? That saying has often bothered me. Dead is dead no mat.ter how you do it, but intimidation is another thing altogether. And an AK-47 is a very intimidating weapon, it's very well known and has quite a rep. That's a useful tool.

What use does a gun have other than for killing, you ask? The answer is intimidation. And different guns have different intimidation factors. I'd much rather intimidate a man or woman to surrendering than kill them. Plus it's a damn bloody mess (figuratively and literally) to clean up if you do and I really don't want to have to be bothered with that.

Alright I'll play your game duel
I actually can't agree more with that picture, i mean civilians that are emotionally involved taking the law into their own hands? yup that always solves it

@MD

You need a driver license to be able to drive with a car, you don't need a license to own or use a loaded gun.

Maybe this adds to the flames

May not solve it. But if it keeps you and the ones you love from being killed, then it is worth it.
