You're probably right, but I see him as an unpredictable mentally disturbed person, and I take threats very seriously, so I just want to make sure. That's all.

Me? Let me remind you that I wasn't the instigator here. And besides, it was about time someone called JimJam Bonks there out for his retardedness.

Oh noooo someone on the internet made a statement that could kinda be taken as a threat from a certain point of view, hardass mode activate! Oh, and you weren't the instigator? Man, back in the day I heard that argument back in the yard all the time, y'know? Like, that [female dog] would be all up in my face like "man you a stinky poophead" and i'd be like "aw hell naw son" and then i'd flick him in the nose and then we'd fight and then i'd be all like "ay yo moms look at dis assho his [female dog] ass started this whole thing" and then she'd be like "pffffft naw" and then i'd still be in trouble and what i'm trying to say is stop acting like a [m'kay] eight year old. Nobody's "calling him out" because those people who are taking this seriously are preparing actual arguments against him instead of crying like a child, and those who are joking around find his jokes pretty funny. Unfortunately for you, you inhabit some sort of bizarre space between these two sides, and are convinced that he's going to like track you down and kill you or something?

For the record, i'd like you to think very carefully about why i'm still around on these forums, and why all the people I tear into eventually disappear. Very. Very. Carefully.

Okay...refocusing here on gun legislation, I have considered many of the arguments made hitherto, and I find myself being pulled in two directions.

I would ask that everyone here read this article. It presents an argument from a viewpoint that has yet to be discussed here, considering the dynamics of owning a gun, and how these factor in to human behavior. The article also centers on discussion as a means to an end, without suggesting that "Gun Control" is a definitively necessary measure.

Bailey, I understand your logic. I felt the same way after 9/11/01. I was willing to let my government enact new laws to help "protect" us and make America "safer". We ended up with the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. We also lost Liberty. Not a good trade in my humble opinion.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin

Ben had it right. Once you give up your liberty, rights, and freedoms, it is very hard, if not impossible, to regain. And the "safety" gained is an illusion. Not real.

Indoctrinated youth vs. free thinking adults = name calling and insults.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED"

There is no way to convince the anti gun people that it is our RIGHTS that are being INFRINGED. There is also no way to convince the pro RIGHTS people that you can reach these kids. They have grown up in a country where RIGHTS are stripped away daily and no one says a [m'kay] thing.

This thread needs a lock.

No, it's getting interesting. Just cooked some popcorn from the heated arguments and flamewars.

Don't lock this thread, please. So some name calling happened? Who gives a [poo]? Can't we be adults and just beat the [m'kay] out of eachother sometimes?

But you lose liberties ALL THE TIME and the only time you ever hear people complain is when it has anything to do with their guns. My state just outlawed texting while driving, I lost a liberty in the overall effort to maintain safety. Just because Obama passes one piece of gun legislation does not automatically turn him into a dictator who can make whatever laws he wants. If it is this hard for him to pass even simple common sense laws then think how hard it would be for him to go any further. I find people's fears of extreme gun control snowballing from one law to be completely irrational. Our government has a series of checks and balances to prevent that exact thing.

Also, owning an assault weapon or extended magazine is hardly an essential liberty. That Franklin quote is not relevant.
