Euro troubles

Postby MATTHEW'S_DAD » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:12 pm

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet or if it has I missed it. I'm pretty ignorant on this but I see the banks in Cyprus are being closed a few days and basically the government is going to help themselves to a small percentage of peoples savings? I also understand that there might be a lot of Russian money in these banks so maybe no one really cares? I don't know, but I'm curious to what some of the Europeans think about it or if I'm completely misunderstanding the situation.

Nope, you got it right, and going for 10% of peoples total savings amount, but I think they're targeting accounts over $130,000, to include foreigners who park savings in Cyprus Banks and even Russia who has over $16 Billion there. Putin is a bit pissed off. Not sure about how 'legal' it is, but this probably gave Obama a Hard-On giving him, yet, another idea how to get more cash to waste.

I think that it is good that they want people with more money to pay more tax but I think it would be too easy to just open several accounts just under 20 000€ to avoid paying any tax at all.

Really? would you let the government come into your personal residence and take 10% of all your personal belongings? Because that's exactly what they're trying to do. Is to take money that belongs to the people which is personal property and pay for the mistakes of the socialistic government. Anybody who thinks that the governement has the right to come in and steal is [m'kay] moron.

It happens here too. Awhile ago, I accumulated several parking tickets. I forgot how many but I do recall paying off over $400 dollars and leaving 2 unpaid tickets left. The next day they (City of Milwaukee), towed my car. Told me to pay the remaining two tickets and the towing plus storage and I could get my car back. I let them keep the car. Legal extortion.

That is not the same thing Panama. You parked illegally, accrueing the tickets. You paid your fines except on two. That is your responsibility.

They are going into people's savings accounts and taking money that they saved legally. They are not paying a penalty. They are being robbed by the government to pay for governments misspending habits. Because it is the government, it will be a 'legal' robbery, but theft to be sure.

well, the people of cyprus wanted big government.... too big for their economy. Now they have to pay for it. Their country can have big government, that's their choice, but it can't be more than what the country produces. Now they are bankrupt. That simple.
