If you backed up the files as per the instructions, you can easily revert back to the old files and stop your crashing.

As for why you're crashing, it's likely your graphics card. When does it crash? When you start up the game, or when you try and play a match?

No, it won't make your game lag unless you're like, using a netbook like I was 3 years ago and it takes 5 minutes to load any map.
