I understand that, and I respect that you're trying to defend your beliefs, and I'm not trying to say you can't do that. We live in a free country, one should be able to do so.
What I can't abide is your "all or nothing" approach to the bible. I'd rather be an atheist. Because I don't support slavery. I don't support prejudice of any kind.
If you didn't want grief, you should have stayed away from this topic altogether.

Hardly, you can try and reason with me, it has been done in the past, and my views on many maters have changed.
Keep in mind, it doesn't mean that if after posting an argument someone doesn't state they changed their mind they haven't, or never considered it.
I don't support slavery either, but keep in mind, the old testament was written in days where both morale, customs and manners were different, many of these things just recently(in the past 50 years) changed.
In those times if a man had debts of his own due to his own doing he became a slave, and with Israel this didn't apply to the children.

Nowadays when by your own doing you are in debt and cannot pay it everything you hold dear will be taken from you, if you don't have friends or family to support you then what?
Why do you think a law was made that after a certain period of time slaves had to be released, And if these wished they could remain slaves there were enough that during those times did it all depends on how they were treated.

About the all or nothing approach, if someone were to steal a dime of me, or 100€ it's still stealing.
With that i don't judge or hate persons regardless of their beliefs, actions is what maters to me what you are, where you came from it maters not, we're all human, actions is what maters, it's not who you are it's what you do.

Consider this angle from a 'spiritual' perspective...Let's say, generally, Men have a 'Male' spirit, and Women have a 'Female' spirit.

Now, for some unknown reason, some men are born inhabited by a 'Female' spirit, and some women are born inhabited by a 'male' spirit. Spiritually attracted to the body of the opposite sex of their spirit. May explain the female traits of gay men, and the male traits of many (not all) gay women.

I suppose to reinforce this, a study would need to be done to see how many gay men prefer being the 'catcher' (vs the pitcher), and how many gay women prefer being the 'pitcher' (using a dildo, vs the catcher receiving it), to see if their spiritual existence is correct with their sexual position preferences. i.e. a gay man inhabited by a female spirit likely would prefer to be the 'catcher'. A gay woman inhabited by a male spirit would rather be the pitcher.

Mystery solved! :th_a017:

As MT said, the Bible is very clear in many places, and sometimes there is no room for interpreting something else. When the Bible says men can't sleep with men, it's clear. I don't approve of homosexual conduct, but I respect their free choice.

1 Peter 2:17
Honor [men] of all sorts

The Bible is not extremist or old fashioned as some might think. It is pretty much common sense. Don't approve of homosexuality, but you respect people's wishes.

The bottom line problem in denying marriage, civil unions, or whatever you want to call it to LGBTs is they are laws based on religious objection; this is piecemeal de facto religious establishment and in violation of the first amendment which then goes on to violate the equal protection clause of the 14th. Look slavery and segregation had a long run for a lot of the same reasons, but they've since been dealt with. It's high time to break religion's grip on congress' throat and recognize American citizen's right to be in a committed relationship with whom they choose, and have that relationship legally recognized and protected.

I don't think you quite get what MT is saying. The bible (On which Christians are supposed to base their faith) is very clear on the matter of homosexuality. There isn't a middle ground. This though doesn't mean that people are discriminated against. They have their own right to live their lives. As MT said it's the actions that God hates.

Also, to bringing the bible into this discussion which is clearly a political one, is pointless. Jesus taught his followers to remain neutral in world affairs. So the better question to ask is why are some religions getting involved?

My views about biblical literalism should be obvious by this point. Same-sex marriage passes the most important moral test ("does it hurt anyone?") with flying colors; the Bible is just being used to justify disgust and bigotry. Much the same way it was used to oppose interracial marriage, in fact.

I realize this was probably posted in jest, but I have to point out that it's a false and dangerous way of thinking. Homosexual men are still men. They have the marker of physical gender, the Y chromosome, and think that they are male.

But wish that they were female. Also, I do not see the 'danger' in this way of thinking, but I supose most innovators throughout history were considered a threat or having dangerous ways of thinking to some degree.
