Doomday Preppers

Postby NiteRunner81 » Tue Apr 23, 2013 5:13 pm

I've took a shining to the show, and am starting to invest in food storage myself. Hubby and I are having a bug out location surveyed and finding a trailer house to place down there (on my parents property). They have beef cattle, ample gardening space, and I plan on getting pigs soon. My dad has enough firearms to provide security and my mom and I have sewing skills to provide those needs. I plan on buying up denim, cammo fabric, and the fabric necessary for cloth diapers, etc.

I do believe that one day we will face a disaster with our food supply and chaos in stores because of it.

7 people with a lot of guns will get destroyed by a lot of people with no guns. If it's anywhere near civilization, i'd suggest finding a bug-out location for your bug-out location, preferably in the deep wilderness with no trails other than the ones that only you and your family can reasonably find.

+1 If it comes to that, desperate people will do the most depserate in human things to each other. My ideal location would be an underground bunker in a very remote location.

Things to consider getting that will disappear fast:

I like your idea but it's not an easy task.... since I have absolutely zero skills I would prefer to live in a small city where you could easily leave in case of an emergency. For example, trying to leave while there is an evacuation of New York would be disastrous, but if you live in a small city, you can evacuate quickly.

but I dont know... I have not thought about it very much.

My first major purchase will be a 4x4 so that if any major roadways are blocked I can use the more difficult backroads that you need a 4x4 on..

I've thought of underground, but isn't it hard to go underground with cows.

You realize Malthus was wrong, right? Preparing for a doomsday based solely on these fears is irrational and a waste of money...

Preparing for possible eventualities to ensure the safety and continued well being of your family is not a waste of time, energy, nor money. Sticking your head in the sand in blissful ignorance is irrational.

Samonuh, there are two categories of people - The Haves and The Have-Nots... you will be a "Have Not" and will be looking to a "Have" if SHTF (poop hits the fan)...

I've seen the extreme side of prepping on tv but then one weekend (after my hubby didn't receive his paycheck till a week later) that it was necessary to start prepping.. There is always a secondary smaller catastrophe that families face that makes it NECESSARY to keep preps around.

One episode hit on the subject of REDUNDANCY -- and that is what I'm keeping in mind. Other reasons than the "big SHTF" to keep whatever prepping supplies that are necessary on hand.. AND to keep food supplies in small packaging that way if a smaller routine emergency happens (you lose your job, get hurt, don't get paid on schedule, etc) you aren't scrambling to provide for your family. And do small food containers that way you aren't dipping into a 10# can of expensive freeze dried stuff.

As for other prepping supplies, cloth diapers (and lady stuffz), it'll be me that saves upwards of $2500 per child.

I just don't understand the mentality of believing the world will end in our lifetime. Society is more peaceful now than it has even been, food supply grows even more exponentially paired with increasing population, and only about 10% of our land is actually used...

it's interesting what you say but I really don't think things are improving.

world income is high and world hunger is on the rise even though food production has increased
