Before anyone calls [citation needed] on that, let me link this: http://www.princeton.edu/~pager/race_at_work.pdf . New York City, 2005. Quite an interesting read. For example, white felons apparently have more luck in the job market than blacks with clean records.

I don't dispute these findings Crater. They could very well be true. However, those hard-working blacks who just want to make an honest living, still suffer from the volatile trouble-making blacks that tend to destroy whole communities.
But, 'Blacks' shouldn't be casting stones. They are just as racist as whites, if not more so. I guess having:
--BET (Black Entertainment Television),
--The BET Honors,
--The BET Awards (honor the achievements of African American artists in film, television, music, and more. While this used to be a venue of minority interest it has rocketed into the mainstream with the huge success and popularity of Hip-Hop and the cross-over power that Black entertainers have gained over the years.)
--The 44th NAACP Image Awards
--Black Girls Rock! Awards
--The Soul Train Music Awards
--BET Hip Hop Awards

This is in whiteys face right out in the open too. Granted, these appear almost exclusively on BET, but just imagine the crying and whining by blacks, and how 'whitey' is uncaring and 'racist' if the white people started WET (WHITE Entertainment Television)! Add to that all the 'Whites Only' Awards shows!
Ohhh the 'Race Cards' would need to be printed overtime because they'll be slung in every direction at every white person imaginable.
Most Blacks have a double-standard when it comes to racism. So I don't care to hear their bull when they dish out racist comments and actions just as much as whites do.

Except that the entertainment industry started out white-centric, stayed that way, and still hasn't fully recovered.

Not even sure how to respond to this.

I interpret this as there are two types of blacks -- the ones that have overcome the stigma, keep to themselves, and go about their business being positive members of society. Then there are the ones that thrive off of "stirring the pot" and taking down "whitey"...

I smell a rat... there has to be something bigger behind the scenes in regards to the companies dropping paula and her products and services...

So far we have:

Food Network
Smithfield Foods
WalMart
Target
Meijers
Norvo Nordisk
Ballantine Books
WalGreens
QVC
J.C. Penney's
Sears Holdings (Sears/KMart)
Caesars Entertainment Corporation

Considering the fact that Al Sharpton is backing her I smell a big fat stinky rat. I've read rumors that the plaintiff (Lisa Jackson)'s ex husband is related to Jesse Jackson. If so I bet there is more to the story behind all the companies dropping her.

In the plus column she has been forced to extend and offer more cruises on her annual Paula Deen Cruise aboard the Mariner of the Seas (they added an extra departure in 2014) due to high demand.

Something just doesn't add up.

To me it just feels like a bunch of corporate risk-managers coming to the same conclusion. Nobody wants an association between their company and racism. The situation doesn't even matter; just having it in the media is enough to make them panic and dump her.

I think you're correct Crater. But more than that, it could also be more like Nite suggested (The lightbulb went off for me at her comment)...and she's right... It's like 'Politics'. Big business is full of political scheming behind the scenes. If there's a 'threat' (such as Nite suggested), they will do whatever is needed to resolve the issue(s) with the least amount of damage.

i.e. (Here's what I believe Nite was getting at...and I whole-heartedly believe it 'could' be the reasoning) Whether or not 'Jesse Jackson' is indeed related to the plaintiff (even an Ex for the sake of public exposure), in this case, or just to keep his pitiful memory alive, by representing Jessebelle Jackson, he may have made some calls to the various corporate entities sponsoring Deen, and threatening a massive black boycott of their products and or businesses. If such a scenario occurred, Corporate bosses probably figured it would be far cheaper to off-load Paula Deen, and keep the millions of blacks $$ coming in. Paula Deen is a 'face' and a product 'line'. Both are easily replaceable, plus it makes their black customers all the more loyal for off-loading the 'racist whitey'. They can save more 'race cards' for another day.

It's all about the MUNAH!$$$ (Credit to 'Corpse' on the spelling)

Given all Al Sharpton's mis-steps in the past, I don't think he has the horsepower he once had. Besides, he and Jesse are just a couple of turds anyway. But blacks seem to like them I guess. Hard to say what their true standing and influence is anymore.

Edit: Also, while I'm thinking about it, Paula Deen is playing it smart (unlike that youtube video she made apologizing) by thanking those companies that have supported her over the years. It looks more professional, plus increases the chances of her keeping those that still are with her, and possibly getting new sponsors down the road when this becomes ancient news, and nobody gives a damn anymore. I truly believe that this exposure will only help her in the long run.

Granted, she's not at the high monetary sponsor level of Tiger Woods, but I think you'll agree, there's a bit of similarity. It's 'business' after all. She'll recover. The Press will determine just 'how far'. Gotta luv that 'Freedom of the Press'! Constitutionally protected to [m'kay] your whole life and career up!

BTW, I just fixed a toilet, so the day wasn't a total bust! :gunsmilie:

Most of my 'black' friends agree that to our youth being "black" is being part of a culture, it's not a race anymore. Maybe the older generations think differently.

Personally I find the term "African-American" to be racist in and of itself.

We try so hard to be politically correct that we end up being racist in the end. It needs to stop, and I think it will in about 30 years. Till then, sit down, chill out, and let the situation flow.
