Obama gave yet another useless, devisive speech...Stock Market tanks. Seems every time he opens his mouth...Maybe if he tried 'negotiating' instead of giving speeches. Hmmmm....

Lol, why negotiate with people whose idea of negotiation is to use a government shut down to push through two years of their failed agenda. Also, just because the stock market tanks on the day of a speech does not prove causality. More than likely the fears over a default along with tanking retail stocks.

the move of the republican party to attack the main policy that has marked Obama's presidency is unrealistic. If they want to attack obama on something else, great, but do they really think Obama is going to negotiate on practically the only thing he fought for during his first 4 years of presidency? If Obamacare is good or bad, that's another matter, but people (regardless of party) have to show some respect to the President. If Obamacare passed, it passed and forcing a shutdown on his throat to get rid of Obamacare is simply disrespectful to to him and to all the voters that supported him (which are the majority). If they want to remove obamacare, they have to find another way. I am not supporting democrats or republicans... but we have to be realistic. He's not going to negotiate on the only thing he was "won" big (politically speaking) during these 4 years.

Any president who betrays our constitution by making congress and himself exempt from the same laws that we, the people, have to follow, should know the respect of the title is going to decay. All the while babies are losing their WIC benefits...

It's not that they just tried to defund the healthcare act, they basically said pass our agenda for the last two years or we shut down.and the president and Congress are almost always exempt from the law unfortunately.

OK, lets look at this from another angle.

10 or so years from now, when Obama Care is up and running, and everyone "loves" it, what do you think will happen the next time there is gridlock and a government shutdown occurs. Your government healthcare is cut and people that were relying on it to get the medical care they need will not be able to get it because it will be shut down. Do you really want to give the government that kind of control over it's citizens? It won't be just national parks and a few offices closed. It will be hospitals, medical centers, and ERs being shut down for political leverage. You think it is bad now? Wait until you cannot get the treatments you need because politicians are bickering over whatever happens to be the flavor of the month.

As for this particular "shutdown", it really isn't a shutdown. 87% of the government is still up and running, getting funding. That is still trillions of dollars still being spent. Only 13% of the government is shutdown. And Obama and his cronies are making sure it hurts the people as much as possible to blame it on the Republicans. No one is on the high ground here, both parties are so polarized.

It is kind of funny how they blame each other for playing politics. Since they are in the business of politics. It is kind of like the morons on HA or JBA calling each other noobs. It is pointless. Isn't politics a prime requisite for being a politician?

This is the first time I can recall that a president has refused to even discuss anything with the opposing parties. I cannot stand Clinton, but at least he realized that he needed to work with Republicans during the last shutdown of '95.

The point is, he and the supporters of this program HAVEN"T won yet. When you're down by 2 touchdowns with 2 minutes left to play, you don't just quit.

The people who voted for the Republican legislators in the House of Representatives have sent their representatives there to do a job. In the "People's House" the majority have said REPEATEDLY the mandated coverage portion of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) is unacceptable (and in my view immoral). Much like an onside kick is both the smart and right thing to do in that football game i mentioned earlier, so passing a budget that does not include funding for ObamaCare is the smart play in Washington. What Obama and the Democrat leadership is doing is akin to seeing the other team line up for the onside kick and refusing to take the field. I guess that tactic works too, but there is going to be a penalty flag. The umps need to throw the flag in the right direction and say, get your asses on the field (start negotiating).

Let's not forget, the House actually passed the budget; fully funding all of the government except one new project. None of the Government that was operating without a budget for the past 4 years needed to shutdown. Not one program. Only the newest, largest and most controversial program was set aside for further discussion, debate and negotiation. A pet project, called ObamaCare.

+1 on Dread's post. Also, do the pro obamacare people even realize that the healthcare law is basically set up as a classic pyramid scheme? It requires (in order to sustain itself) that younger, healthier people to buy "more" insurance than they will need thus feeding money into the system to help offset the costs associated with very sick and elderly. These young healthy people are the bottom of the pyramid and the old and sick are at the top. But our population fluctuates and as younger people realize they can just pay the fine on their taxes, etc and then as they grow into the older population and their numbers increase, the pyramid will flip and you will see the pyramid collapse. Of course DC won't let that happen and they will either tax us even more of they'll just print more money of which either leads us another step closer to the end.

The pyramid "flipping" is a reality. It will happen.
