Sadly, there are many theories as to why we are in so much debt. China, Funding almost EVERY other country for SOMETHING, public spending, defense, etc. I'd like to here all of you guys' ideas as to we our "illustrious" country is in over it's head.

Because politics is a short sighted profession. Although in this country's defense, pretty much all governments are as worse, or even worse than us when it comes to debt. Social programs created decades ago have not scaled up well when coupled with population demographics.

What do you mean "why are we in debt?" We spend more than we generate in revenue. It's not rocket science...

2 wars, a massive economic crisis and social programs that give many benefits without tax increases to support them.

Well. The American citizens and the constitution took another shot to the ass.

The reason we have a huge debt is because we have been moving more and more towards socialism for decades. And now they are openly redistributing the wealth, thumbing their noses at the constitution, and flipping off the citizens. It is going to get a lot worse in the coming years, methinks.
